The long-awaited return of9-1-1season 8 is nearly here, and there are a few important storylines to recall from the first half of the season.Aside from9-1-1’s typical near-death experiencesand entertainingly absurd emergencies, season 8 has been character-driven. For every high-octane call, there were at least two meaningful conversations between characters. From key relationships reaching milestones to peripheral pairings calling it quits, the9-1-1season 8 casthas been the true selling point of the first eight episodes.

When9-1-1season 8 returns, the many unresolved storylines for each main character will once again take center stage besides a dramatic midseason emergency.Though there will surely be many original plots and character arcs in the second half of the season,9-1-1left clues pointing to what will be most consequential for the next 10 episodes. Some storylines will continue directly, and others, though concluded, will have lingering effects, making now the perfect time to get caught up before9-1-1season 8 returns.

After Oliver Stark’sBuck explored his bisexuality in 9-1-1, he quickly formed an attachment to a previous 118 firefighter named Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.). ThoughBuck and Tommy got off to a rough start in9-1-1, they eventually decide to pursue a relationship, with Buck even inviting Tommy to Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney’s (Kenneth Choi) wedding. After coming out to the 118, Buck’s relationship with Tommy largely faded into the background.

What Connie Britton Has Done Since Leaving 9-1-1

Connie Britton starred as Abby Clark in the first season of the procedural drama series 9-1-1 but left the show shortly after its premiere in 2018.

In the opening episodes of9-1-1season 8, Buck and Tommy’s relationship was much more prevalent in the plot. Slowly, the procedural began to sprinkle in seeds of conflict that came to a head in “Confessions” after Buck learned Tommy was engaged to his first girlfriend in the series, Abby Clark (Connie Britton). Though Buck, overzealous as always, overcompensates for his discomfort by asking Tommy to move in with him,Tommy breaks up with Buck, explaining he’s his“first,”not his“last.”

7Athena And Bobby Haven’t Replaced Their House

Their Home Burned Down In The 9-1-1 Season 7 Finale

In the climactic finale of9-1-1season 7, Bobby (Peter Krause) rescues Athena (Angela Bassett) from their burning house, managing to resuscitate her before he collapses. Although he pulled through his brush with death in the season finale,Bobby and Athena’s house was consumed by the fire. At the midpoint of9-1-1season 8, Bobby and Athena still haven’t begun construction on their new home.

One of the first conflicts in9-1-1season 8 was Bobby not wanting to rebuild their old house exactly the same, but little has been done since they agreed to start anew.

Eddie, Brad and Howie in 9-1-1

It’s been so long since the characters mentioned it that it feels as if9-1-1forgot Bobby and Athena’s house problem. One of the first conflicts in9-1-1season 8 was Bobby not wanting to rebuild their old house exactly the same, but little has been done since they agreed to start anew. Creating schematics and constructing a dream house from scratch takes time, but one of thebest couples in the9-1-1franchisedeserves a big home update soon.

6Karen And Hen Regained Custody Of Mara

Councilwoman Ortiz Was Finally Defeated

Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) began their journey as foster parents in9-1-1season 3, but things took a turn after the death of Councilwoman Ortiz’s (Veronica Falcón) son. To seek revenge against Hen for“letting”her son die,Ortiz pulled strings to get their fostering license revoked and rehome Mara (Askyler Bell),the young girl that they were planning on adopting. Although Maddie and Chimney took Mara in temporarily, it was still heartbreaking for Hen and Karen.

In one of9-1-1’s most heartwarming moments, Mara reunites with Hen and Karen in9-1-1season 8, episode 4.Since coming home, Mara hasn’t been involved in the overarching story much, aside from trick-or-treating during the Halloween episode. There are many obstacles still in Hen and Karen’s way after taking down Councilwoman Ortiz, but at least they have their child back.

Athena Grant looks on in 9-1-1

The Actor Returned To Hotshots

One of the wackier subplots of9-1-1season 8 was Brad (Callum Blue), a hot-shot actor who developed a fascination with Bobby. After deciding the fictional firefighter he plays isn’t real enough compared to Bobby, Brad insists on shadowing him and the rest of the 118 to become a method actor. Brad loses all sense of boundaries, stepping in during a call and“rescuing”a civilian.

9-1-1 Season 8’s Nuisance Character Is To Blame For Eddie’s Shock Exit

The 9-1-1 season 8 midseason finale teased Eddie’s exit, and one random character is to blame for him possibly leaving the ABC drama series.

Brad made Bobby uncomfortable from the moment he was introduced in9-1-1season 8, but the fire captain rarely loses his temper. After Brad crosses the line in the field while pretending to be an actual first responder, Bobby berates him for his foolishness to believe he’s capable of tending to9-1-1’s intense disasters. Though Bobby later apologizes, Brad returns to his acting career after one last call, where he remembers why he chose the entertainment industry in the first place.

4Bobby Replaced Gerrard As Captain Of The 126

The Rightful Captain Regained The Position

Brian Thompson’s run as Captain Gerrard in9-1-1began as a clear-cut antagonist. Like a supervillain, he swooped in at the last moment of9-1-1season 7 to pull the rug out from under the 118 and reveal that he would be the new fire captain. The cliffhanger came out of left field, but it left an underlying conflict for9-1-1season 8 to pick back up on.

Gerrard was a menace in the opening episodes of9-1-1season 8 until a rogue saw nearly killed him.Buck saves his life, kick-starting an unwanted mentorship that culminates in Gerrard asking Buck to pick a coworker he should fire.9-1-1season 8 kills its two antagonists with one stone as Gerrard helps to take down Ortiz with a hidden body camera in exchange for swapping roles with Bobby, returning the rightful captain to the 118.

3Athena Applied For A Rookie Officer

Athena’s Career Has Been Stagnant For Too Long

After sustaining an injury while pursuing a suspect, Athena is tasked with shepherding a young gun rookie officer who instantly gets on her nerves.Athena sensed that the rookie was unprepared for field work, but her supervisor insisted she ride along with him. Her instincts prove correct when, in an effort to tase a motorist, the young cop accidentally shoots a civilian. I’ve Suddenly Lost Interest In 9-1-1 & Doctor Odyssey’s Crossover After Learning About This 1 Detail

ABC’s new medical drama is crossing paths with its long-running procedural, but the 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey crossover already has a hurdle to cross.

For years,Athena’s biggest problem in9-1-1has been her career. Although she’s been with the police department for decades, she hasn’t accepted promotion opportunities or seriously considered retirement. Consequently, the only real way to spice up her sporadic work scenes is to give her a new partner to riff off of. I doubt Angela Bassett’s sergeant will leave the field any time soon, so9-1-1might introduce a new recurring character to be Athena’s mentee.

2Maddie Is Pregnant

Her Second Pregnancy Will Be Different

Maddie’s first pregnancy gave9-1-1one of its most emotional storylines to date, but she and Chimney are going to have a second child. 9-1-1 season 8 revealed Maddie’s pregnancy towards the end of the first half, leaving the latter 10 episodes to set up (or even conclude) her second pregnancy arc. Unfortunately,Maddie’s pregnancy won’t be without complications in9-1-1season 8.

There’s no telling how this traumatic experience will affect Maddie, but her pregnancy will add undeniable complexity to her next near-death experience.

The little that’s been revealed about9-1-1’s midseason return focuses on Maddie, specifically how Maddie will be targeted by a serial killer when season8 returns.Maddie’s9-1-1futureseems precarious, but Athena is shown to be working on the case, which bodes well for the dispatch worker. There’s no telling how this traumatic experience will affect Maddie, but her pregnancy will add undeniable complexity to her next near-death experience.

1Eddie Might Be Moving To Texas

9-1-1 Season 8’s Biggest Cliffhanger Needs Resolution

The most important cliffhanger that9-1-1season 8 needs to address when it returns is Eddie’s (Ryan Guzman) potential exit. Out of the entire main ensemble,Eddie’s had one of the most interesting arcs in9-1-1season 8.After his son moved to Texas to live with his grandparents, Eddie was left unmoored.

Though he continually blames himself for his son leaving, Eddie finally starts to forgive himself in9-1-1season 8, episode 6. Sadly, his character development led him to make a tough decision in the midseason finale.

As9-1-1season 8, episode 8 revealed,Eddie is considering relocating to Texas to be with his son. All signs point to Eddie really leaving, at least temporarily.9-1-1season 8 already has an Eddie replacementlined up, but Guzman’s absence would be palpable. Though the Texas subplot is irrefutably the biggest unanswered question,9-1-1season 8 may not offer it (or any other storylines) an easy ending.
