Summary
Following the news of Robert Downey Jr. re-joining theMarvel Cinematic Universeas Doctor Doom,Captain Marvelactor Brie Larson shares her reaction and teases whether she’s inAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars. While Phase 5 gets closer to its end,the MCU timelineis not done yet with The Multiverse Saga, as its big threat is still out there. However, this threat won’t be Kang the Conqueror any longer, following Jonathan Majors' firing from theAvengersfranchise.
With twoAvengersmovies lined-up, many have been wondering which heroes will be back for the Phase 6 installments. During an appearance onThe Playlist’sBingeworthyPodcast, Larson was asked whether or not Carol Danvers will be making her MCU return inAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars. The MCU star was tight-lipped, but teased that she may know something about Carol’s next film appearance, sharing the following.

I can’t say anything and I can’t even say that I don’t know anything because that might mean that there’s something to say or not say. So I’ll just say that I can’t say.
While Larson wasn’t part ofMarvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the podcast still asked what she thought about Downey Jr. coming back, this time as Marvel villain Doctor Doom. It turns out that Larson had just been with Kevin Feige before the event, with the actor sharing how he had talked about Marvel’s Comic-Con panel before the big Doctor Doom announcement:

I want to be clear. I was just with Kevin [Feige]. It was like that same day and he was like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing a thing at Comic-Con.’ He did not say that at all! Not at all!
What RDJ’s Doctor Doom Casting Means For Iron Man’s MCU Return Theories
Robert Downey Jr. is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play Doctor Doom, and that casting impacts Iron Man’s return chances directly.
How Captain Marvel Can Fit Into Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars After The Marvels
Even thoughThe Marvelsdidn’t do well at the box office, it didn’t stop the MCU film from setting up plot points that could easily tie intoAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars. As Monica Rambeau is trapped in another universe, an organic way to make Captain Marvel fit into the story of the nextAvengersmovies is by having her, and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, finally find their lost ally, while also being brought into the midst of the Doctor Doom plot.
Withthe Russo brothers back forAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars, they are bound to attempt to address as many plot points from The Multiverse Saga as possible in this two-part finale. That would include exploring Monica’s current situation while also establishing which universe she did get stuck in, given the cameo of Kelsey Grammer’s Beast at the end ofThe Marvels. This is arguably the ideal way to go about developing this side of the story, unless Captain Marvel returns in an upcoming MCU movie beforeAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars.

AsAvengers: Doomsdaywill start production in 2025, more details about the movie will likely become clear closer to the start of next year, including potentially shedding light on who is actually going to be back for the film. With the cast ofThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsconfirmed to appear, there are at least some new faces already being brought into the fold. Hopefully, more news will emerge sooner rather than later about who else will be starring inAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars.
