While some of these choices are less obvious than others, such as saving the leader of the Aldecados Nomad clan, Saul, in time duringRiders on the StormdespiteCyberpunk 2077not informing players thatthe mission was on a timer, others directly present players with a binary choice and make it clear that this will impact relationships with characters. This is the case following the boss battle with Sandayu Oda, where players can choose whether to take the life of Hanako Arasaka’s personal bodyguard or not.
All Important Cyberpunk 2077 Choices That Matter Later
In a game as long and complex as Cyberpunk 2077, it can be frustrating to face unexpected consequences hours after making a small decision.
Who Is Sandayu Oda?
Oda Has A History With One Of V’s Allies In Cyberpunk 2077
As previously mentioned, Sandayu Oda the personal bodyguard of Hanako Arasaka, and a boss battle against him automatically triggers once V attempts to disconnect a netrunner from the net at the end of thePlay It Safequest, in which V andformer Arasaka bodyguard Goro Takemuratry to reach Hanako during a parade in memory of her father, Saburo. The boss fight against Oda is challenging due to his extreme agility, as he moves around the level quickly delivering an array of deadly cuts using his mantis blades. Alternatively, Oda can also attack from afar with an SMG and homing missiles, and uses Active Camo to essentially turn himself invisible as he heals and plans his next attack.
Oda is also resistant to Smart weapons, as his mask interferes with their autolocking, and doesn’t take as much damage from thermal attacks.

Oda and Takemura also have a history due to their time working together at Arasaka.Takemura was the one initially responsible for training Oda when he first joined the security detail, and through their shared battle experience, the two have managed to achieve a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect, which is why Takemura felt he could reach out to Oda about the events of the Konpeki Plaza incident and who was really behind the assassination of Saburo’s murder. Unfortunately, Oda promptly urged them to stop talking about the matter, believing that the Arasaka family politics should be kept from the public and warning the duo not to contact him again.
Cyberpunk 2077: How to Defeat Oda (Tips, Tricks, & Strategies)
Defeating Oda, a cybernetic ninja, in Cyberpunk 2077 will test players' reflexes as they avoid his swift and deadly Mantis Blades.
Takemura And Oda’s Fates Can Change One Of Cyberpunk 2077’s Endings
Both Characters Can Appear Later In The Game
Upon defeating Oda, players have the choice as to whether they should kill him or spare his life. Takemura pleads with V to spare his former mentee’s life, and if V executes Oda after hearing this, Takemura will angrily tell V that he would remember this action. It does, however, give players the chance to acquire an Iconic level weapon from Oda’s body.
If Oda is spared, however, he will be taken to receive medical treatment, but his pride takes a hit after suffering such a defeat in battle. Not killing but merely incapacitating Oda will result in him appearing in theTotalimmortalmain job as part of Cyberpunk 2077’sThe Devilending, which can be unlocked bytaking Hanako’s offer for helpinNocturne Op55N1.

Here, Oda will assist V, but his appearance also hinges on the survival of Takemura, who can be killed in a pursuit followingPlay It Safe’s parade in theSearch and Destroymission. If players managed to help Takemura escape, he will call in a number of allies to accompany him in the siege of the Arasaka Tower, including Oda, and the group arrives at the meeting with Arasaka’s members of the board and faction leaders, with Oda intimidating those who spoke against Hanako as she an engram of Saburo Arasaka expose the truth about his son, Yorinobu’s betrayal and launches a coup against the corporation.
From here,Oda will help Takemura and V fight against Yorinobu’s armed forces as they progress towards the elevator to reach the higher levels of the tower, however, he will not go up to Yorinobu’s office with them, instead staying dedicated to his main role of protecting Hanako and staying with her instead. Admittedly, this appearance is fairly minor and doesn’t affect the main outcome of that ending in any way, as players can also be involved in Hanako’s coup without Takemura and Oda, but it is a nice payoff to the decision V made earlier in the game.

If Takemura dies after the parade, players are also locked out ofThe Devilachievement/trophy, even if they follow this questline, as its criteria states they must help Takemura avenge the death of Saburo Arasaka.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ranking Every Possible Ending From Worst To Best
Cyberpunk 2077 has recently released a trailer for its final expansion, before new endings show up here’s a list of the current endings available!
Players Can Loot An Iconic Weapon From Oda
Dealing More Damage In Boss Battles
After defeating Oda,players can loot his signature weapon, the Jinchu-Maru katana, from him. The katana falls under theIconic weapons categoryand this is the only opportunity to acquire it in the base game if players haven’t purchased thePhantom Libertyexpansion.
Those who do ownPhantom Libertyare not locked out from attaining the Jinchu-Maru after the fight with Oda, however, as it can also be purchased from Herold Lowe at the EBM Petrochem Stadium in the expansion’s exclusive location, Dogtown.

The Jinchu-Maru is an incredibly sleek-looking weapon, being almost entirely black, with the Arasaka decal appearing to be placed on the blade rather than the hilt. It also once belonged to Takemura, who gifted it to Oda after his training, giving it some sentimental value for the characters and making V acquiring it after going against Takemura’s attempts to plead for Oda’s life have more of an impact.
Jinchu-maru has an iconic modifier that causes the last strike of a combo attack to always deal double damage, and while Optical Camo is active, the user can use Leap Attacks on enemies, and all hits are guaranteed to deal Crit Damage. It also deals 10% increased damage to Elite and Boss enemies, making it an extremely useful melee weapon to have to hand.

Ultimately, as with the other choices inCyberpunk 2077, it comes down to what players feel is best in that moment, or more true to their depiction of V. Depending on the life path they may have chosen at the start, some players may feel V should be more ruthless in this situation, while others may choose for their V to be a merc with a heart. It’s these different choices that make the game extremely replayable, however, as there are so many different variations to theit outcomes further down the line.
