Many optional bosses can be found and fought inElden Ring’sShadow Of The ErdtreeDLC, but Jori, Elder Inquisitor can be one of the more annoying enemies you might attempt to beat. This mage found deep in the Abyssal Woods uses summoned allies to fight back against your character. If you aren’t prepared, you may easily become overwhelmed by the arcane power wielded by this foe and their allies.
The Elder Inquisitor is hiddennear the Darklight Catacombs Site of Grace, a location inside one of the dungeons leading toward the Abyssal Woods region. This subsection of the Land of Shadow holds many secrets, but you won’t be able to reach them until you get past Jori. How To Reach Jori, Elder Inquisitor
Travel Down Four Floors Of The Dungeon
From the Darklight Catacombs Grace Site, you mustgo down four dungeon floorsto reach the golden fog wall preceding the Elder Inquisitor’s boss fight. When you start exploring the area, the dungeon will be dark with very little visibility unless you carry a torch in one hand. If you turn right and deal with enemies around every corner, you’ll eventually reach a lever you can pull to illuminate the location better.
Pulling this lever will raise a stone platform similar to the one you used to enter the Catacombs from the Abyssal Woods. On the second floor, head forward and left to go down into another series of rooms in a set path.Keep following the main routethrough this place to reach another lever that causes a platform to be raised to your character’s level.
This third floor will be a bit trickier to navigate, as you have to dodge huge fireballs being shot out of the cannon-like mouth of a larger enemy in this space. Turn left from where this creature is standing and pull another lever to brighten up the dungeon once more. This will also lower the platform where the enemy sits and open up a path beyond it to another descent leading to the fog wall for the Elder Inquisitor boss.

How To Prepare For Jori, Elder Inquisitor
Negate Holy Damage And Have Some Crowd Control
Jori, Elder Inquisitor, is a slow boss thatuses Holy magic attacks at long-rangeagainst your character most of the time. Those who rely onranged weapons inElden Ringor magic of their own only need to out-damage the boss to contend with it for the majority of the fight. Anyone who prefers a reliable melee weapon will have to adjust their strategy, but both approaches will require you to understand what Jori is capable of.
Since most of the Elder Inquisitor’s attacks deal Holy damage, you may want to equip an item that increases your character’s resistance to that element. For example, theGolden BraidTalisman can help you negate some of the Holy damage dealt by Jori’s spell attacks. The boss happens toresist Holy, Magic, and Lightning damagesomewhat, making it harder to use weapons that inflict those elemental types.
The Elder Inquisitor isslightly weak to fire damage, making some spells and weapons more effective against it. Somenew spells fromShadow Of The Erdtree, likeMessmer’s Orb, could be a great way to injure this boss through this vulnerability. Some basic weapons you already have in your arsenal might benefit from specific Ashes of War associated with fire damage in preparation for this battle.
TheRivers of Bloodweapon is particularly strong against Jori, Elder Inquisitor due to its ability to deal fire and Bleed damage to quickly tear through the boss' health compared to other tools.
The strongest move Jori can perform involves summoning numerous Inquisitor enemy allies that all have access to the same magic as the boss. These enemiescan be defeated in one hit, but they may be tricky to deal with at the same time as the Elder Inquisitor. You’ll want tohave magic or weapons capable of controlling crowdsto better deal with this attack when it is used.
How To Defeat Jori, Elder Inquisitor
Study Attack Patterns And Deal With Summons Fast
Many of the Elder Inquisitor’s spell attacks look similar, so you have torecognize which magic the boss is usingto have the best chance to adapt. Whenever you get close to the boss, they will try and use their staff to inflict piercing damage to your character with swift strikes. Only when Jori is truly threatened will they resort to the Inquisitor allies, similar to theLamenter boss inElden Ring’s DLC.
As you’re able to see in the above video byFextralife, the Elder Inquisitor isvery weak to backstab attacks, which you can often land if you manage to circle the boss while they try to cast spells.
How To Counter
Inquisitor Summons
When pressured, the Elder Inquisitor summons two to five Inquisitors who can cast the same magic the boss does.
Quickly dispatch every Inquisitor that appears to reduce the number of spells targeting your character.
Spira
At the start of the fight, Jori raises its staff in the air to cast Spira, a Faith spell that summons a circular swirl of energy under where your character is standing to do damage.
The boss casts this multiple times in a row, so just Sprint toward the Elder Inquisitor to avoid the magic and retaliate as it recovers.
Holy Crescent Moon
From far away, the Elder Inquisitor creates a semicircular ray of light in a crescent shape that travels across the arena to damage anything it touches.
Dodge forward just as the crescent of magic is about to hit you.
Crescent Barrage
Jori raises its staff before conjuring a barrage of smaller holy crescent moons in quick succession diagonally at your character.
Dodge quickly to the left or right, then Sprint around to the boss' back to easily avoid the incoming barrage.
Triple Crescent
The Elder Inquisitor raises its staff before casting a wave of three crescent moons at your character.
Dodge forward to roll directly under this attack.
Teleport
When you are very close to Jori, they will sometimes glow before teleporting to the other side of the arena, causing a small Holy shockwave when they disappear and reappear.
Run away from the boss when you see it glow to avoid the initial shockwave.
Staff Swing
The Elder Inquisitor will swing its staff toward your character at close range, which glows in Holy magic that explodes after a brief delay following the melee attack.
Dodge either directly backward or to the side twice to avoid both sources of damage from this attack.
Staff Strike
When pressured, Jori will try to stab its staff forward in a sudden melee strike.
Quickly roll to one side when you see the boss about to unleash this attack.
Use the gravestones and other structures in the boss arena to disrupt the spells of Jori and its summoned Inquisitors. Any crescent moon magic that hits a stone will dissipate immediately, allowing you to take cover in certain places.
Staying aggressive is the easiest way to take down this boss once you realize how much time you get to fight back in between its attacks. Watch your Stamina and stay patient to eventually take this foe down to earn 260,000 Runes and theBarbed Staff-Spearitem. You’ll only manage to beat Jori, Elder Inquisitor inElden Ring’sShadow Of The ErdtreeDLC will only occur if you stay calm and don’t get overwhelmed by the boss' summons.
