Quick Links
InElden Ring, the Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion brought forth many new weapons for the Tarnished to experiment with. One of these new weapons, the Stone-Sheathed Sword, can be converted into a new Legendary armament: the Sword of Light or the Sword of Darkness. The Sword of Light will be the focus of this build guide, but the setup will generally work the same with the Sword of Darkness, as they are both Strength/Faith weapons with similar effects.
The Sword of Light has an incredible new Ash of War that may seem like it does subpar damage until you realize it should be treated more as a buff rather than a Damage tool. After casting the skill, Light, your character will receive a20% damage increase to all Holy attacks for 60 seconds. This is especially effective given the amount of new Holy damage options available within the DLC.

The Falx is a set of twin Curved Blades introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree, rewarded at the end of a long questline and built on Dexterity.
How To Find The Stone-Sheathed Sword
The First and Easiest Location
From the Castle Front Site of Grace outside of Castle Ensis, up the path to the north until you reach a valley covered in a thick fog; travel through this valley until you reach the end, wherethere will be an entrance to the Fog Rift Catacombs.
Progress through the catacombs while watching out for the ceiling spike traps until you reach a set of stairs that drop off an edge. Let the spike trap fall before dropping, hurrying to the other side. Take the lift down to progress.

Continue throughElden Ring’s catacombsuntil you reach another larger spike trap room, where you will slowly make your way across while using the side alcoves for cover. Once you’ve reached the other side, you cantake the spike trap up by hopping onto an indented ledge.
Open the chest with theAsh of War: Blinkboltletting the spike trap fall again. Hop on top of it this time, running across until you reach a hidden room on the right side. There will be an altar here that contains the Stone-Sheathed Sword.

How To Create The Sword Of Light
Find The Other Altar
With theStone-Sheathed Swordin hand, it’s time to find the correct altar that will transform it into the Sword of Light, located within the Rauh Ancient Ruins. From the Rauh Ancient Ruins, West Site of Grace, head up the stairway to the west and continue heading north. Pass through the gazebo andinto the hallway filled with Scarlet Rot.
Proceed down the path past the elevator, doing your best to avoid the Kindred of Rot pest threads. There will be a tower to the northeast on the balcony outside the Scarlet Rot room. There is an invisible bridge leading from the balcony to the towerthat you must cross to reach the altar, on which you’re able to raise the Stone-Sheathed Sword to convert it into the Sword of Light.

Best Sword of Light Build: Stats, Talismans, Armaments
Crafting The Perfect Paladin
TheSword of Lightis a fantastic addition to anyConfessor/Holy-oriented build, providing an excellent Holy damage buff that can stack with other buffs. While many Faith builds utilize fire and lightning damage, the Holy damage buff the Sword of Light provides is too strong to pass up additional sources of Holy damage.
Implementing other weapons with high Holy damage scaling, such asthe Coded Sword or the Inseparable Sword, will dramatically boost this build’s effectiveness.

The Sword of Light is not meant to be your main damage tool. Instead, treat its skill as a buff before switching to a higher DPS Holy weapon.
7 Arcane
Sword of Light
Inseparable Sword or Sacred Greatsword with Aspects of the Crucible: Wings
Coded Sword or Marika’s Hammer

Erdtree Seal or Dryleaf Seal
Sacred Scorpion Charm or Crimson Amber Medallion +3

Leda’s Armor
Crucible Axe Set
Light of Miquella requires 72 Faith, but you should be leveling Faith throughout the expansion. The Sacred Scorpion Charm will boost Holy damageby an additional 10%, stacking with the Sword of Light.
However, if the increase in damage taken is too much, switch to theCrimson Amber Medallion +3, one of thenew talismans in this expansion, for increased survivability. If you encounter a boss that is giving you trouble, substitute the Sword of Light buff withBlack Flame’s Protectionto sacrifice the increase to Holy damage for increased damage negation.

The Light skill and Black Flame’s Protection do not stack, so only cast the one you wish to use.
How To Use The Sword of Light
Just Keep Buffing!
The gameplay loop should be familiar to Faith players, as it involves stacking several buffs before charging through the boss fog. Start drinking your Wondrous Physick to boost your Holy damage and damage negation before casting incantation buffs. Then, cast Blessing’s Boon, Golden Vow, and the skill, Light, in that order. TheOld Lord’s Talismanwill extend the timer for buffs, letting them last 30% longer. Switch to either the Inseparable Sword or the Coded Sword before challenging the boss, as those will be your main damage tools.
Your Holy damage should be your main source of damage, making the Coded Sword perfect as it deals no physical damage. The Inseparable Sword remains a great option, which you can get fromcompleting Fia’s questline, as its Faith scaling is one of the highest in the game. The Sword of Light offers an incredible buff to all Holy Paladins, allowing them to confidently tackle the Land of Shadow inElden Ring.
