Anyone who enjoys using artificial intelligence to create images and artwork will be pleased to discover that ChatGPT’s new and improved model is now available to all.

ChatGPT’s New Image Generator Opens to All

ChatGPT’s new and improved GPT-4o image generator is now available to all users, even if they’re accessing ChatGPT for free. OpenAI launched ChatGPT’s 4o image generator on March 25, and everyone online was immediately blown away by the power and versatility of this new image generation model.

For a while now, ChatGPT has allowed users to create images using its DALL-E model. The results were generally good, although some of the resulting images suffered from known issues, such as the wayAI struggled to generate hands.

ChatGPT’s image generator creating Studio Ghibli art

Now, ChatGPT is using a new model to create images, and the GPT-4o model seems to be much, MUCH better at creating impressive AI images. You can see just how things have improved inour article comparing the two ChatGPT image generation models.

After OpenAI first launched its GPT-4o image generation model, the companywarned on Xthat its rollout to free users may need to be delayed. This was due to the sheer number of paid users trying it out, and its Studio Ghibli-inspired art going viral.

The latter prompted a backlash, partly due to concerns about copyright issues, and (as reported byMashable) partly due to Studio Ghibli’s co-founder Hayao Miyazaki’s previously expressing hatred for artificial intelligence imagery.

However, a few days later, the delay seems to be at an end, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posting on social media that it’s available to all. There is, as was always the plan, a limit for free ChatGPT users. At the time of writing, this limit means that free users are limited to generating three GPT-4o images per day.

Expect to See More Studio Ghibli Art Go Viral

Even with the limit of three images a day for free users, opening the GPT-4o model up to more users means you’re likely to see even more Studio Ghibli-inspired art on social media. There has been a ton posted already, with some considering itAI slop, but I’m still quite enjoying the trend if I’m honest.

Above is my first attempt at artwork in the Studio Ghibli style. And while this image of a cute cat meditating on top of a mountain isn’t going to win any awards, creating it brought me some satisfaction. Especially as I’m a fan of Studio Ghibli’s catalog of animated films.

So much so, that I’m going to be sure to create my three free images a day. While I’m not the biggest ChatGPT user in the world, whenever it gains a new skill, I can’t help but test it out to see what generative AI is becoming capable of.
