Having former friends Rhaenyra and Alicent speak again after so much betrayal and tragedy befalling their families since their last meeting added another layer to make the scene even more compelling. There was also an emotional vulnerability to Rhaenyra that she rarely reveals, as a part of her also just wanted to know if her father, King Viserys Targaryen, loved her, and to understand why he changed his mind. For a brief moment, Rhaenyra was just a heartbroken daughter seeking answers from the woman who used to be her best friend.
While it was a relief for Rhaenyra to know that her father loved her and kept his promise to the end,Alicent’s refusal to admit her mistakewas heartbreaking as she knew she and the other Greens had gone too far and there’s no turning back now.This scene was powerful on an emotional leveland brought the heart of the series back to Rhaenyra and Alicent. It also cemented that there’s no hope of preventing all-out war, with battles on par withGame of Thronesnow on the horizon, in a scene made possible by a septa outfit.
