What Will Happen To Daenerys’ Dragon Eggs In House Of The Dragon?
Three Of Them Will Be Safe
Sincethree of the four eggs going to the Vale will later end up with Daenerys inGame of Thrones, nothing untoward is going to happen to them during the upcoming civil war. However, there is the curious addition of a fourth egg, withHouse of the Dragonseason 2not yet revealing why this extra one is joining the rest of them. While it’s already clear the rest of the eggs are going to be fine, whatever happens to this additional egg could involve a fate that nearly befell Drogon and his siblings before they were even hatchlings.
Since most of the eggs sent to the Vale are going to be fine, it doesn’t seem like they’ll play too major a part in the story anytime soon. However, sincethere are no more dragons in Westeros by the timeGame of Thronesstarts,House of the Dragonwill likely reveal how they were kept safe for almost 200 years until Daenerys was entrusted with them. This could include the Greens trying to destroy them to ensure Rhaenyra can’t raise any more dragons, unaware of what their actions would cause.

Since the eggs have only just been introduced, it may not be untilHouse of the Dragonseason 3that their full importance during the civil war is shown. Given one of these eggs doesn’t make it to Daenerys by the timeGame of Thronesbegins, its fate will need to be explained during the prequel series. Even though their final fate is clear, the eggs will still play a key role in the spinoff as the civil war finally comes to a head.
Why The Dragon Eggs Are So Important For House Of The Dragon Season 2
Dragons Are Symbolic Of House Targaryen
The dragon eggs are more important beyond just the role they’ll play inGame of Thrones: they also symbolize the power of House Targaryen within the Seven Kingdoms. By hiding eggs in the Vale, Rhaenyra ensures that, should many dragons die during the oncoming war, there are still descendants who can be utilized by the royal family in the future. Now thatAlicent won’t change her mindabout Aegon’s rule despite knowing the context of Viserys' words, it’s clear the war is about to become more violent - making protecting baby dragons more vital than ever.
Because of how brutal the war is expected to be, many dragons are destined to fall as larger skirmishes continue to transpire.

Given how the dragons are talked about as though they are weapons of mutually assured destruction, Rhaenyra’s decision to keep a lineage of them safe shows how she sees them as more than tools. For her,the protection of the dragon eggs is a vital part of Targaryen heritage, something she still considers despite the war at her doorstep. While she has no idea Daenerys will become mother to these dragons nearly 200 years from now, her actions are influenced by considering the future of her House and what brings them so much power.
Will More Dragons Die In House Of The Dragon Season 2?
Others Are Likely To Fall
House of the Dragonseason 1 endedwith a tease for the dragon battles to come, as Vhagar kills Arrax and Lucerys Velaryon, a key moment in the buildup to the war. Another dragon battle is on the horizon according to theHouse of the Dragonseason 2, episode 4 trailer, which teasesVhagar and Caraxes fighting in a clash over the Riverlands. Because of how brutal the war is expected to be, many dragons are destined to fall as larger skirmishes continue to transpire. This makes preserving the species' future more vital now than ever before.
WithDaenerys' dragon eggs safe in the Vale, though, it seems the blood-soaked conflict of the Dance of the Dragons will keep them out of harms' way for now. However, with one egg unaccounted for inGame of Thrones, a future episode ofHouse of the Dragonwill still need to address why not all four of them made it to the far future. With the war teased to become more brutal for dragons and humans alike, it seems the journey of these eggs will be an important one for later in the series.
