What Is Auto Optimization on Samsung Phones?

The feature was introduced as a way to preventcommon Android phone problemssuch as crashing apps, a flickering screen, a lagging user interface, and more.

To enable the Auto Optimization feature, head over toSettings > Battery and device care > Auto optimizationand toggle onRestart when needed. Do note that we’re using a Samsung phone running on One UI 5; if your device hasn’t got the update yet, the steps might vary a bit.

Enabling this feature gives your phone the permission to automatically perform a restart when it’s not in use. Doing this closes background apps and kills temporary cache files that might be causing the issue; don’t worry, this doesn’t affect your personal files or the data inside apps.

It’s good practice to restart your phone at least once a week. If you want to be extra careful, you can take a look at your phone’s restart history by going toSettings > Battery and device careand tapping the Care Report icon (beside the Search icon). There, you can see the last time your phone was auto-restarted.
