How to Change a Body Pose in an Image Using Photoshop
Changing a body pose in Photoshop is easy. It’s just a matter of using the Puppet Warp tool in most cases. But sometimes you need another strategy if you want to change a body pose without distorting the background layer too.
In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to separate the subject from the background so that you’ll be able to change a body pose in any image.

Step 1: Separate the Subject From the Background
For the first step, we’ll need two layers; one with the background isolated and one with the subject, our dancer. Using the Select Subject tool combined with the Content-Aware Fill tool, the result will be two layers that can be used with the Puppet Warp tool later—and we can non-destructively construct a body pose.

We’re now ready for the second step; using the Puppet Warp tool.
Step 2: Use Puppet Warp to Modify the Body Pose
We’ll first convert the “dancer” layer to a Smart Object so that we can change the body pose of the dancer non-destructively. Then we’ll use the Puppet Warp tool to place pins that will allow us to change the body pose. Follow the steps below.
Since we’re using a Smart Object for the “dancer” layer, we can always go back and make additional changes. For example, the dancer’s front leg looks a little unrealistic. We can fix this by double-clicking onPuppet Warpand simply repositioning the pin.

Notice when we moved the dancer’s front leg that the background details around the foot weren’t affected by Puppet Warp? That’s the magic of separating the subject from the background.
