Desktop personalization is a big part of how we use our computers. If you’re not happy with the Windows 11 taskbar placement, you should adjust it according to your preferences.

How to Move the Windows 11 Taskbar Using the Windows Settings

If you’ve just upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11, you might be used to having the taskbar icons on the left side of your screen. In this case, you can move Windows 11 taskbar to the left through Windows Settings:

The taskbar should move instantly, without you having to restart your computer.

As you may see, there are only two options for moving the taskbar. If you want to reposition the taskbar to the top of your screen or on the right side, you’ll have to use a different method.

How to Move the Windows 11 Taskbar Using the Windows Registry

Moving the taskbar on your Windows computer by editing the Registry works for Windows 11 22H1 or earlier versions. If you’re not sure which Windows version you’re running, right-click the Start button and selectSettings. Then, go toSystemand click onAbout. Take a look at theWindows specificationssection to find out which version you’re currently running.

Editing the registry is a bit more complicated than the previous solution. We recommendcreating a registry backup pointin case something goes wrong.

Edit the Registry to move the taskbar

To edit the registry, search forregistry editorand selectRun as administrator. Head toHKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > StuckRects3. Then, in the right pane, open theSettingsvalue.

Now, you have to replace the first value in theFEcolumn. Depending on the new value, the taskbar will change its position.

Restart File Explorer to reposition the taskbar

Most of the time, when editing the Registry, you have to restart your computer for the changes to take place. However, in this case, there’s a faster method. PressCtrl + Shift + Escto launch Task Manager. In theProcessestab, right-clickWindows Explorerand selectRestart. Now the taskbar should move to its new position.

Besides moving the taskbar, you canedit the registry to make the taskbar smaller or bigger.

Reposition Your Taskbar on Windows 11

Depending on your personal preferences, you should move the taskbar around on your Windows 11 computer. Besides repositioning the taskbar, you should take the time to edit the Action Center or pin more apps and folders to your taskbar.
