Priority conversations on Android are notifications from messaging or texting apps that, when enabled, will appear first in the notification shade. This feature was introduced with Android 11 and helps ensure you don’t miss important messages.
How so? Notifications from priority conversations will sound even when you are on silent mode, vibrate when vibration mode is off, and appear at the top of the Android notification shade even if you have Do Not Disturb mode on.

There are two ways to enable priority conversions on Android 11+ devices, and we’ll show you both.
Set Priority Conversations From the Notification Panel
Before we continue, these guides are based on Android 13, and your settings will vary depending on how heavily-skinned your Android system is and which version you’re running. The basic instructions should be the same, though.
The first method requires you to have a message in the notification shade. If not, ask the person you wish to prioritize their conversation to send you a new message. Once you receive the message, follow the steps below.

Set Priority Conversations Using the Settings App
If you cannot use the first method, you can set priority conversations via the Settings app using the steps below.
And with that, you have enabled priority conversations on your Android device. A priority conversation is indicated with a profile icon in the status bar and lock screen instead of the app icon. Also, the app icon in the notification shade and lock screen is shown on the bottom right side of the profile icon with an orange circle.

If you leave the Bubbles option turned on for a priority conversation, new messages will appear in a small bubble that pops up on top of whatever app you’re currently using.
Besides priority conversations, what about when you don’t wish to deal with a text message right away? You can postpone that by using our guide onhow to snooze text messages.

Never Miss Important Messages Again
If you get barraged by notifications on your Android device, you can miss important messages that require your attention. Luckily, priority conversations are a great way to bridge this gap and ensure you see all the message notifications that matter most, whether from work or people you care about.
