WithThe Mandalorian & Grogucurrently the only confirmed continuation of season 3’s story, Swallow’s comments paint an interesting picture of what the future of the franchise may be. With Din choosing to set up shop on Navarro and taking contract work from the New Republic followingThe Mandalorianseason 3’s ending, his theatrical adventure may focus on a new, more standalone story. Furthermore, with Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) vanquished, there are few notable outside threats invested in occupying Mandalore.

Ahsokapivoted the era’s conflict from the Mandalorians to the returnof Grand Admiral Thrawn(Lars Mikkelsen). It showed major recurring characters such as Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) reassigned to assist with New Republic security and diverted notable characters away from Mandalore’s corner of the galaxy.Skeleton Crew’s band of young heroes seems set to further push away from Mandalorian culture, focusing instead on a lost group of young people traversing the galaxy. As such, with season 3 ending on the image of the Great Forge reignited, the Mandalorians may be left to rebuild off-screen.

While Swallow’s statement doesn’t rule out her return,it is clear that Favreau and Filoni’s vision for the era isn’t reliant on Mandalorians. Despite some divisiveness over the execution,The Mandalorianseason 3 did resolve many of the ongoing loose ends that had surrounded Mandalore and its people since season 1 aired, leaving a potential bookend for their story for the time being. As such, while the Armorer will always be there to keep every warrior shining and united,The Mandalorian & Grogumay keep them from coming home for some time.
