I listen to music all day, every day. While I love my playlists, not a single day goes by without me checking out Spotify’s Daylist. But as great as these playlists are, Spotify really, really needs to chill with the over-the-top playlist titles!

Daylists Are Calling Me Out, and I Can’t Even Be Mad

Spotify’s Daylist is essentially your day in a playlist. Unlikeother playlists Spotify generates for you, Daylist updates multiple times a day, reflecting what you probably want to listen to at that moment. It curates songs based on your listening habits during certain times or days and slaps on a fresh title that (supposedly) represents your music taste.

Lately, though, my Daylist titles feel less like a reflection of my music taste and more like a personal attack on the music I enjoy. For example:

What kind of personal attack is that? Sure, I listen to a ton of emotional music, but does Spotify really need to remind me of my emotional state in the middle of the day? And just a few hours later, my Daylist hit me with this:

At this point, I don’t even think some of these titles match the genres listed. How do “sad girl” and “autumn” connect to “sweet power pop”? Plus, what even is the “pink pilates princess” genre?

They’re not always this insane, though. Right now, my Daylist is called “obsessed solo artist Sunday morning,” which feels pretty tame compared to the others.

That said, Daylist is still one of my favorite Spotify playlists. It’s a solid way to discover new music that fits my taste (sometimes songs I would never have never checked out otherwise) and even rediscover old tracks I forgot existed. And as much as the titles call me out, they never fail to make me laugh, so I guess I’ll let Spotify keep dragging me for now.
