Ahsoka Season 2 Is Perfectly Primed To Reform The Mortis Gods
Everything The Show Needs To Recreate The Mortis Gods Is Currently On Peridea
Ahsokaseason 1 perfectly set up the return ofthe Mortis Gods—the Father, the Son, and the Daughter—who were introduced inThe Clone Wars. The Mortis Gods haven’t been explored in too much detail on screen, butThe Clone Warsrevealed that the Son embodies the dark side, the Daughter embodies the light, and the Father represents balance in the Force itself. Ahsoka Tano also has a direct connection to the Daughter, as the Daughter gave her life to save Ahsoka, making a connection inAhsokaall the more logical.

TheAhsokaseason 1 finalemade this connection even more explicit, as it revealed that Baylan Skoll was on a hunt for the Mortis Gods on Peridea. Given the original Mortis Gods all died inThe Clone Wars, it’s unclear what Baylan will find. However,with the return of Anakin Skywalker as a Force ghost on Peridea,Ahsokahas set up an even better Mortis Gods arc:the recreation of the Mortis Gods with Anakin, Baylan, and Ahsoka.
Anakin, Ahsoka, and Baylan are perfect stand-ins for the original Mortis Gods, especially given Anakin and Ahsoka’s personal history with the original trio of gods and Baylan’s clear interest in them. InThe Clone Wars, Anakin, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka all ended up on the planet Mortis after a crash-landing. During this arc,the Father specifically wanted Anakin to take his place.

Anakin rejected the Father’s request inThe Clone Wars, but as he is now a Force ghost on Peridea, he would have little reason to decline this role. As mentioned, Ahsoka also has a direct link to the Daughter. In fact, some believe the Daughter even lives on in Ahsoka and thatAhsoka embodies the light side of the Forcealready because of this arc. That the Daughter’s convor, Morai, continues to follow Ahsoka only reinforces this all the more.
While it may seem unlikely for Baylan to join Ahsoka and Anakin in these new roles, he’s already indicated that, although he is on the dark side, he has a reverence for the Force and even for the Jedi. That, combined with Baylan’s obvious interest in the Mortis Gods, suggests he may be open to the possibility after all. If that’s the case,Ahsokaseason 2 would be the perfect time and place forStar Warsto explore this arc.

This Would Mean Anakin Really Would Bring Balance To The Force
After The Sequels Called This Into Question, Anakin’s Prophecy Would Be Fulfilled
If Anakin, Ahsoka, and Baylan did reform the Mortis Gods,this would give Anakin’s Chosen One prophecy an entirely new meaning. Interestingly, while the Jedi interpreted this prophecy to mean Anakin (or the prophesied being) destroying the Sith, that wasn’t actually what the prophecy said. Rather, the prophecy was:
“A Chosen One shall come, born of no father, and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored.”
In addition to the prophecy making no mention of the Sith being destroyed,the wording of"ultimate balance in the Force"suggests that there is something so much bigger than just the Jedi and the Sithat work within this prophecy.
Clearly, as the Father represented balance in the Force itself, if Anakin did become the Father, he would be bringing balance in an entirely new way—and, the word"ultimate"would make so much sense in this context. This would also resolve the lingering issue regardingThe Rise of Skywalkerwithout needing to retcon anything. It would simply mean that the Jedi misinterpreted the prophecy (which seems to be the case regardless, at least in the sense that they added their own meaning) and that this is what it referred to all along.

Anakin’s Absence In The Rise Of Skywalker Was Glaring
In addition to addressing Anakin Skywalker’s Chosen One prophecy,Anakin, Ahsoka, and Baylan becoming the new Mortis Gods would resolve several oddities inThe Rise of Skywalker. The most obvious of these would be an explanation for Anakin’s absence, especially as Kylo Ren was using Darth Vader’s legacy to justify his evil and violent behavior. It’s always seemed strange that, given Anakin was a (clearly active) Force ghost at the time, he never intervened to tell Kylo Ren that he didn’t want him to finish what Vader started.
If Anakin had taken up the mantle as the Father on Peridea, his absence inThe Rise of Skywalkerwould make perfect sense. Presumably, that role would prevent him from moving freely about the galaxy, even as a Force ghost. It did seem as though the Mortis Gods were stuck on Mortis inThe Clone Wars, as the Son was attempting to leave the planet, soStar Warshas already suggested this would be the case.

The same would be true of Anakin not appearing alongside Luke and Leia on Tatooine as Rey buried Anakin and Leia’s lightsabers. Arguably, it would have made the most sense for Anakin to be there, as Rey was burying his lightsaber there and this was where his mother was buried. Sure, Anakin had no direct connection to Rey, but he had spoken to her through the Force on Exegol.
For that matter,this recreation of the Mortis Gods would also explain Ahsoka’s absence in the sequel trilogy and her ability to speak to Rey inThe Rise of Skywalkerwithout her being killed off. Many were concerned thatThe Rise of Skywalkersubtly confirmed Ahsoka’s death because her voice was included among the other fallen Jedi. If Ahsoka was on Peridea, though, it would make sense that she was only able to speak to Rey through the Force.

Another very popularAhsokaseason 2 theory makes this possibility feel all the more likely.Many believe that Shin Hati will become one ofStar Wars’most terrifying villains. Abeloth, also called the Mother inStar WarsLegends, has yet to appear in the canon, butAhsokaseason 2 seems like the perfect timing for her introduction. As her name suggests, she was part of the Mortis Gods, although she was not initially. At first, she was a mortal, but she bathed in the Font of Power and the Pool of Knowledge, twisting her to evil.
Star Wars: Who’s Abeloth, & Why Is She Important To Ahsoka Season 2?
The Star Wars entity named Abeloth has long been a mysterious part of the franchise’s lore, yet could now become more integral in Ahsoka season 2.
With Shin also trapped on Peridea and Baylan on the hunt for the Mortis Gods, some suspect that Baylan will end up releasing Abeloth, who could possess Shin. This especially makes sense given Abeloth was ultimately imprisoned by the Mortis Gods themselves. Peridea may very well be that prison. In fact,re-imprisoning Abeloth could even be the reason Ahsoka, Anakin, and Baylan need to become the new Mortis Gods.
Can Ahsoka Really Sit Out Dave Filoni’s Movies?
Dave Filoni Isn’t Likely To Leave Ahsoka Out
This theory is truly thrilling, but it’s not clear how likely it really is. Perhaps the biggest counterpoint to this possibility is the fact that it would require Ahsoka sitting out Dave Filoni’s upcoming Mandalorian movies.With Ahsoka being Dave Filoni’s brainchild in many ways, it seems unlikely he would be open to making a feature film set during this era that doesn’t include her.
Many also assume, in part for this reason, thatAhsokaseason 2 will see Ahsoka and Sabine return to the mainStar Warsgalaxy, which would make this even more of an upset. Even so, Filoni was also behind the Mortis Gods, so perhaps this sacrifice would be worth it in his eyes. OnlyAhsokaseason 2 will reveal the answer to this question, but, excitingly, a massive update to Anakin Skywalker’s Chosen One prophecy and several other storylines may be coming soon.
