With no information forthcoming, it’s left fans to fill in the blanks for themselves, fromA Court of Thorns and Rosesbook theoriesto the publication date, which is how one rumor regarding the title of the next book got started and spread like wildfire. It turns out it’s not true, but I really wish it were, as it would be perfect.

The Next Court Of Thorns & Roses Book Can Finally Subvert A Common Sarah J. Maas Trope
Sarah J. Maas uses one trope in all her fantasy series, but the next A Court of Thorns & Roses book can finally put a unique spin on it.
A Court Of Bloom & Decay Is Rumored As The Next Title (But It’s Not)
It Was Just An April Fool’s Hoax
There has been a rumor going around the fandom on sites like Reddit and blogsthat the title of the nextACOTARbook will beA Court of Bloom and Decay.A few sites have run with the idea (even a few that should know better), posting fan theories and operating as though the title was a leak instead of a rumor. Plenty of TikToks have been dedicated to the title, and it’s become something of a stand-in instead of saying “the next ACOTAR book.” A bit of research, however, shows that it’s not a leak.
Instead, the idea thatA Court of Bloom and Decayis the next titleappears to have been an April Fool’s joke from a single unidentified accountthat blew up when a Facebook group for readers accidentally fell for it and ran with the idea. In theLittle Known ReadsFacebook group, the admin posted a mock cover of a book, ostensibly from the publisher Bloomsbury, designed with the title “A Court of Bloom and Decay” and prefaced with a “Bloomsbury presents…” Unfortunately, the admin quickly added an edit: “EDIT: Apparently this is not real and was a horrible April fools joke, I fell hard for this one…I’m sorry friends”.

Considering there aren’t any other real mentions of the title and nothing on the internet to prove it, nor does that mock cover appear anywhere else, it does seem like the LKR admin fell for an April Fool’s joke. Not that I can blame them. Readers have been invested in the series, andwe’re all wondering what the next book will be about–I know I certainly am. Alas, it’s not a real title, just a hoax.

The Title Would Be Perfect If The Next ACOTAR Book Is About Elain
Elain Understands The Cycle Of Life Better Than Anyone
Still, there’s a reason everyone has run with this title and I honestly thinkit’s that it’s just so fitting considering the speculation that the next book will be from Elain’s POV.The concept of blooming and decay is so fitting for Elain for multiple reasons. First, Elain has always been associated with her gardening and flowers. Indeed, so far, her gardening and way with plants is her one defining trait (which I’ll get to in a moment), to the point that most of the non-Azriel/Lucien-related fan art of Elain includes her wearing a flower crown or with a flower motif.
The decay part is a little trickier, but just as interesting.Just about every one of theACOTARbook titles has been a binary:a good element and a bad one. It underscores the theme of the books, which is finding balance, in the romances, in themselves, in diplomatic relations, etc. In Elain’s story, the negative balancing out the fresh start of a bloom is that something has to die.
It might be the old way she’s still clinging a bit to being human. It might have to do with a vision she sees with her powers of clairvoyance. It could even relate totheACOTARtheory that Elain will be the one to save the Fae trapped in the Prison mountain, a Dusk Court that has been stagnant for years.A Court of Bloom and Decaywould certainly illustrate the cycle of birth and death with which Elain is so familiar. I’d argueit’s gentle Elain who, as the gardener, understands the cyclical nature of life better than anyone. So yeah, I stand by the fact that even though it was a hoax, the title would still be perfect for Elain’s story.
Readers Have Been Needing Elain’s POV For Years
Her Character Development Is Long Overdue
Regardless of what the book is titled, we have to get Elain’s point of view. Her character has been languishing for far too long in the books. She hasn’t gotten much development sinceA Court of Thorns and Roses, and it’s time for Sarah J. Maas to remedy that by putting the focus on the middle Archeron sister. Elain’s long triangle between her, Azriel, and Lucien must be resolved. The question of how her powers work and how powerful she is also has to be addressed. More than anything,we simply need to know who Elain is after all these years, with or withoutA Court of Bloom and Decay.
