Dave Franco is officially opening up about a potentialDay Shiftsequel. In the original movie, Foxx played Bud Jablonski, a vampire hunter who disguises himself as an everyday worker. The 2022 movie was released on Netflix, where it secured positive attention from the average viewer, though critics were repelled by its sense of humor and lack of a cohesive narrative. After all, as a comedy,Day Shiftwas filled with Easter eggsthat thrilled audiences, while offering little to critics. It maintains a 76% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes and a disappointing 57% Tomatometer score.
In an interview withScreen Rant’s Grant Hermanns at the Sundance Film Festival, one star opened up about the potential for a follow-up. Dave Franco, who played Foxx’s hunting partner and is at Sundance to promote his upcoming film,Bubble & Squeak, explained that “there’s whispers” of aDay Shiftsequel, but that it remains unlikely. He would love to have the chance to return to the role alongside Foxx, but emphasizes that he is “not holding my breath”. Check out his quote below:

There’s whispers, there’s whispers. We’ll see. I’m not holding my breath, butI would love more than anything to reunite with Jamie Foxx. He is the most fun, incredible acting partner in the world.
What Dave Franco’s Comments Mean For Day Shift 2
A Sequel Remains A Possibility
Franco’s comments are a good sign that Netflix is still considering a follow-up to the movie. The fact that there are whispers at all indicates thatit is more than just wishful thinkingby loyal viewers.Day Shift’s disappointing reviewscertainly could have harmed its potential, but audience engagement could bring it back from the brink. Franco’s willingness to return is certainly a major selling point, though it will still require Foxx’s agreement as the franchise’s leading actor.
Jamie Foxx is an Oscar-winning actor, having brought home the Academy Award for Best Actor forRay(2004).

Unfortunately,Foxx has been extremely busy in recent years. Foxx has already starred in six other projects since its release. His upcoming work is also extensive, as he is poised to star in several anticipated productions. He is the director, writer, and producer ofAll-Star Weekend(2025), the producer ofGeechee, and a star ofTin Soldier. On the small screen, he is posed to serve as a producer and star of a limited series about Mike Tyson. WithFoxx starring in so many movies and shows, even finding time to film a potential sequel could be difficult for Netflix.
Our Take On A Potential Day Shift 2
It Still Remains An Unlikely Prospect
It would be exciting to see a sequel, but it is not likely to happen anytime soon. Foxx is simply too busy, and the mixed reception will make it difficult to find space on Netflix’s production chart.Nosferatu(2025)’s ongoing success does indicatethat vampire movies can still interest audiences, but it has an entirely different tone. A horror-comedy with ample action means a much more expensive production and Netflix simply may not be willing to take the risk. There are certainly whispers of aDay Shiftsequel, but it is unlikely to materialize in the foreseeable future.
