Landman’s Cast & Characters Explained

Who’s Who in Taylor Sheridan’s New Show

Thornton leads the cast of the show as Tommy Norris, the titular Landman, an oil industry crisis manager who acts as a fixer, procurer, and all-around problem solver in the oil fields of West Texas. Hamm plays an independent oil baron, Monty Miller, alongside Moore as his consigliere wife, Cami. Additionally, Larter plays Tommy’s ex-wife, Angela. Tommy and Monty used to work alongside each other as oil speculators, though while the latter struck it rich, Norris lost everything and now works tirelessly for his former partner.

Thornton and Hamm previously starred inFargoseasons 1 and 5, respectively.

Monty and Cami have two daughters, who are played by Raen and Rodriguez and pictured alongside them in the images above. Also pictured in an image is Lofland as Cooper Norris, the son of Tommy and Angela, who goes to work in the hazardous oil fields of West Texas. This is what causes the two characters to reconnect after having been estranged for years. Together, they also have a teenage daughter, Ainsley (played by1923’s Randolph), who is pictured next to Angela in an image.

Taylor Sheridan’s New Western Show Already Has An Easy Way To Crossover With Yellowstone

A new show from Taylor Sheridan could connect to the Yellowstone universe, and it has the perfect way to do so with another planned spinoff.

In an image towards the end, Feore plays the oil company’s trusted lawyer, while Wallace takes on the role of another liability attorney, Rebecca Savage, sent to West Texas to solve an issue. With these characters, especially Cami and Angela, the show should explore the significant contributions that women make in the highly political and hazardous industry, even though oil fields are typically dominated by men, such as Monty and Tommy, who make their own rules. With A-list actors and interesting characters,Landmanshould mark another hit Western series from Sheridan.

Taylor Sheridan’s TV Domination Explained

Sheridan’s Name Will Help Landman

Beyond the A-list, one of the biggest things thatLandmanhas going for it is Sheridan. A writer, creator, and director, Sheridan has been in the industry for many years, directing films such asWind River, and serving as a writer on numerous projects, includingHell or High WaterandSicario. In recent years,Sheridan’s name has been synonymous with the revival of the American Western, breathing life back into the once-antiquated genre.

Sheridan’s Western prowess is seen most notably through the seriesYellowstone, which has been popular from the time of its debut in 2018. Sheridan went on to produce numerousYellowstonespinoff projectsincluding1883and1923. The success of these shows led to a partnership with Paramount, where he has since launched additional dramatic seriesTulsa KingandMayor of Kingstown. Given the breadth of his recent career,Sheridan’s association withLandmanis apt to bring in further viewers.

Landman Paramount TV Show Updated Poster

The exact release date ofLandmanhas yet to be revealed, but it can be assumed that Paramount+ will not allowLandmanto compete with the release ofYellowstoneseason 5, part 2, which also premieres at the end of this year. Instead, the release ofLandmanwill either build anticipationfor the end ofYellowstoneseason 5 or give audiences a replacement while they wait for theYellowstonesequel series that is currently in development. That is to say,LandmanandYellowstone’s releases should mutually benefit each otheras they prepare for release towards the end of this year.

How Does Landman Connect With Its Source Material?

Landman Is Based On A Podcast

UnlikeYellowstone, which told an original story,Landmanisan adaption of source material that comes from Christian Wallace’sBoomtownpodcast. In the podcast hosted by Wallace, the narrator returns to his Texas hometown, which lies in the Permian Basin. Wallace chronicles the history of this area and oil as he interviews real people whose lives are acutely affected by the oil-based economy. Wallace himself becomes a character in the story, as he grapples with his own relationship with this Texas area.

As a podcast,Boomtowngoes in several unexpected directions, many of which may be explored inLandman. For example, the podcast’s fifth episode, titled “Boobtown” delves into the lives of Hooters-esque workers at a lingerie coffee shop, with the following episode covering the prostitution charges in the area. GivenLandman’s apparent focus on women, the chance that the show too may cover issues like this seems likely.
