Snapchat recently announced it will incorporate more opportunities for ads across its app, even as the app is already overrun with ads. I left Snapchat entirely a few months ago, so this move confirmed that ditching Snapchat was the right choice.

What Are Sponsored Stories?

Snapchat will also unveil another ad placement opportunity, called Promoted Places, by placing ads on the Snap Map. The Snap Map shows where your friends are if they have location tracking enabled. If you don’t like the prospect of more ads on Snapchat, Locket is agreat Snapchat alternative app to still share photos with friends.

Snapchat’s ads have been getting out of control for a while. I used to scroll through different beauty or entertainment stories on the News tab, but the unskippable 5 to 10-second ads made me stop using those features. Snapchat does offer a subscription for $3.99 per month to remove ads, but I never felt Snapchat was a platform that was worth the money.

I occasionally used the app to keep up with friends and family before leaving, but the future addition of ads in my actual inbox ultimately proves I made the right choice to leave the app. I haven’t used Snapchat regularly in a long time, so this confirmed that I won’t be returning to Snapchat. There are plenty ofother reasons to not open Snapchat every day, too.
