Why Hamill Will Be A Great Flying Dutchman

Hamill Brings A Plethora Of Voice Acting Experience

Hamill’scasting as The Flying DutchmaninThe SpongeBob Movie: The Search for SquarePantscomes as somewhat of a surprise. Previously,it had been assumed that the Flying Dutchman’s previous voice actor, Brian Doyle-Murray, would appear in the rolealongside other recurring cast members. While Doyle-Murray had not been confirmed for this role, the actor is still working and appeared inSpongeBobas recently as 2023, in a season 13 episode of the series.

Hamill’s announcement at San Diego Comic Con is a huge win for theSpongeBobmovie. Apart from appearing in theStar Warsfilms, Hamill’s most notable acting talent is as a voice actor. Most prominently, he has been a sinister and unnervingJoker inBatman: The Animated Series, showing his knack for character voices. He has also contributed his talents to shows likeInvincibleandMasters of the Universe. As such, Hamill is well-prepared to take on an iconic role such as The Flying Dutchman.

SpongeBob SquarePants Theory: The Characters Are The Seven Deadly Sins

A popular theory links SpongeBob SquarePants characters to the biblical seven deadly sins. Here’s the SpongeBob seven sins theory explained in full.

Hamill’s casting announced inThe SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePantsmay also help contextualize a vague social media post Hamill wrote earlier this year. Back in May, Hamill wrote “This tweet will gain significance when the movie I start today is publically announced.” While this could have also referenced theStephen King adaptationThe Long Walk, for which Hamill’s casting was announced, it seems like theSpongeBobmovie would be a huge role for Hamill to report. Though audiences have but a snippet of Hamill’s Flying Dutchman voice, it is a promising take so far.
