Although Anya is the name Loid was given when he adopted her and the name she introduces herself to everyone as,her real name might be something else entirely.
A fan theory, posted by@msfujoshi23on X, suggests that, based on a few manga panels where Anya’s name is spelled differently,her name may not actually be Anya after all.In the panel pictured, her name is clearly shown spelled “Ania” on a wooden sign hanging on her bedroom door.
When Loid noticed this, he informed Anya that her name was misspelled on the sign. Rather than immediately change it, she seemed puzzled. Some fans interpret Anya’s reaction of confusion at this moment as a sign that she is used to writing Ania, and not as familiar with her new name, Anya.

Another manga panel features Anya’s handwriting on a school math test. Her name is spelled “Anya” on this document, but there is a faint dot marking over the letter “y” in her name. Every detail of a manga panel is intentional, so to manySpy x Familyfans, this too seems to hint that perhaps she originally wrote Ania, realized her mistake, and changed it to Anya to reflect her more current name. These two hints may not prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that her name used to be Ania, butthey do add validity to the theory.
Anya’s true originsare largely unknown at this point in time. It is unclear what her life was like before Loid adopted her and she met the Forgers, but there is some speculation that her living situation was quite sad and dismal in the past.
