Summary

Starfieldmay be a game about exploring the unknown and expanding the knowledge of the human race, butone player’s discovery is a good reminder that sometimes it’s necessary to take a break and just relax. Due to the sci-fi RPG’s gigantic scale, there are plenty of random encounters that some players may never actually see while they’re off in their corner of the cosmos. Generally speaking, these small events aren’t too interesting in isolation, but one of the more enjoyable finds has apparently been missed by dozens of explorers.

Posted to Reddit by userEmptyDarkH,the player shared their random encounter with a “party” shipthat was floating around the Settled Systems.

The screenshot shows a lengthy chamber populated with hanging flags, bottles, and a filthy table as the inhabitants stand around and toast the player’s arrival. What makes the discovery so noteworthy is that EmptyDarkH has logged around 300 hours inStarfield, meaning the event is especially rare, which is further evidenced by the number of commenters stating that despite having similar play times, they’ve also never stumbled upon the interstellar party cruise.

A New Starfield Currency Could Be The Key To The Most Powerful Legendaries

Alongside the Trackers Alliance quests, Starfield’s most recent update added a special currency that can be used to reliably get legendary items.

What Are Starfield’s Best Random Encounters?

Some Are Particularly Memorable

Given how fragmentedStarfieldcan be in terms of its presentation, random encounters aren’t as frequent as in smaller, more dense Bethesda games. Having said that, there are a few chance momentsthat players can stumble upon as they fly around amongst the stars, and while some are standard quest-givers providing a simple task, others are simply fun. One of the most notorious is a strange ship that attempts to communicate with the player byasking if they know the way to Uranus: Answering “Yes,” prompts the pilot to make a jokebefore flying away and remarking “Smell you later!”

Another more serious random encounter is the Mysterious Captain who, when discovered, will refuse to deal with the player but instead state that he’s “rooting” for them. During a New Game+ playthrough, encountering the same Captain will reveal him to be a fellow Starbornwhoonly deals with other interdimensional travelers. He’ll sell rare items and gear that can be tough to obtain, so while the Mysterious Captain may be bizarre, it’s good to find him.

GivenStarfield’s vast size, it feels like there should be significantly more random encounters spread out across the galaxy.Bethesda may remedy this absence through more content updatesand theShattered SpaceDLC, but the community may eventually step in.Thanks to Creations and an ever-productive community of modders, it’s possible that custom random encounters could soon be available for all of those fans looking for some more variety in their open-world sci-fi adventure.
