Summary

Screen Rantwas at the panel forThe BoysatSan Diego Comic-Con 2024when the original show’s creators confirmed a prequel spinoff titledVought Rising, which will see the return of Aya Cash’s Stormfront. Her return will essentially force the franchise to pay off one of the show’s best jokes regarding the Nazi supe. While the show was only announced recently,Vought Rising’s plot details and casting newsindicate that the show will take place in the 1950s, and will center around the supes known as Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront.

Per TV series creator Eric Kripke, the show will be a murder mystery surrounding the origins of Vought, the mega-company that controls the supe industry in the world ofThe Boys. Stormfront committed suicide inThe Boysseason 3, although some background Easter eggs in season 4 teased that the fan-favorite character could make some sort of return. The confirmation ofVought Risingwill see her return to the small screen, and in the process will be forced to pay off a long-running bit regarding her relationship with Soldier Boy.

The Boys: 25 Strongest Super-Abled Characters, Ranked

The Boys features some pretty crazy strong super-abled characters. Here are the toughest the show has to offer.

The Boys Teased Soldier Boy & Stormfront’s Romantic Past In Season 3 (& Again In Season 4)

Multiple teases hinted at their long-standing connection

Soldier Boy isThe Boys' stand-in for Marvel’s Captain America, but as is the case for most of the superheroes in the show (and original comic series), he is a horrible, debauched version of the hero. Stormfront, on the other hand, is revealed to be a legitimate Nazi in season 2 ofThe Boys. However, her dark agenda was usually hidden behind the façade of the America-loving supe known as Liberty during the 1950s. In season 3,Soldier Boy casually mentions that he used to hook up with a supe named Liberty, who is of course the Nazi-in-hiding, Clara Vought.

Stormfront, previously known as Liberty, is technically the first successful Compound V supe, and was originally married to Frederick Vought.

That reveal is at the heart of a joke that has now been touched on in back-to-back seasons ofThe Boys. The irony is that the show’s Captain America stand-in hooked up with a Nazi, and in fact it appears that they had a relationship that went deeper than a one-time hook-up. In season 4, at a right-wing event called TruthCon led by Valorie Curry’s supe Firecracker, a number of conspiracy theories are shown on signs in a crowd;one of them posits that Stormfront and Solider Boy had a secret romance.

The Boys' Vought Rising Spinoff Can’t Avoid Showing Soldier Boy & Stormfront’s Relationship

The show needs to revisit one crucial event from their past

While those teases leave an interesting thread forVought Risingto pick up when it comes to the two supes' relationship, there is something much more important to the history ofThe Boysuniverse that the show’s creators will be forced to address. Given the temporal setting of the show,it’s almost guaranteed that the show will addressthe origins of Herogasm, the annual all-supe orgy that viewers got a sneak peek at during season 3, episode 6 ofThe Boys. Those familiar with the comics will know that it was actually Soldier Boy and Stormfront who founded the event.

The creators ofThe Boyshave never resisted the opportunity to showcase something truly deranged over the course of the series, and that certainly will extend toVought Rising. With that in mind, it’s hard to imagine that they wouldn’t include the first Herogasm somewhere in the prequel show. Kripke admitted as much about the event’s inclusion, saying, “I think we’d be crazy not to, because Soldier Boy and Stormfront founded it, and they are the two leads of this new show.” Including that eventwill forceVought Risingto formally address the relationshipbetween Soldier Boy and Stormfront.
