Summary
Suits’ final episode acknowledged one hilarious trope about the name of the firm that came up in almost every season of the legal drama. Whileall seasons ofSuitsintroduced new storylines and crises for the characters to solve, the show did have some recurring themes and tropes. From Harvey and Mike crossing some lines to characters lying to each other, some things would happen all the time in the series. That said,Suitswas often clever enough to acknowledge its own tropesand even joke about them.
For example, ahead of theSuitsseason 9 finale, Mike told Harvey that they should avoid doing things that would get them in jail or disbarred this time. The bestSuitscharactersare the ones who change the most throughout the show, which does not mean that they would not repeat some old mistakes from time to time. Jessica, Harvey, and Louis in particular had to navigate a lot of crises, which sometimes led to the firm changing its structure and having new names on the wall.

Why Gina Torres’ Jessica Pearson Cameo Was Cut From Suits’ Series Finale
Suits had a great scene written to incorporate Gina Torres' Jessica Pearson in its series finale but had to cut it due to unforeseen circumstances.
Suits Season 9’s Finale Called Out The Firm’s Multiple Name Changes
Louis Changed The Bylaws So That The Firm’s Name Couldn’t Be Changed For 5 Years
InSuitsseason 9, episode 10, “One Last Con,” the firm goes through some major changes. Firstly, Harvey Specter and his partners succeed in beating Faye in her own game by threatening to accuse her of tampering with a witness. This leaves the Special Master with no choice but to back down and leave the firm, thus allowing Samantha Wheeler to return. As a reward for not only her role in this “last con” but her work at the firm in the last couple of years,Katrina Bennett was asked to become a name partner.

Litt Wheeler Williams Bennett
Lastly, Harvey and Donna decided to leave the firm and start a new life in Seattle alongside Mike and Rachel. In other words, the name of theSuitsfirmwas now Litt Wheeler Williams Bennet. When bringing Katrina as a name partner and saying goodbye to Harvey,Louis pointed out that there would be no more name changes for at least five years.Louis even made sure to add this to the firm’s bylaws. This almost felt likeSuitswas calling out its own trend of changing the name of the firm every so often.
Why The Name Of Suits’ Firm Kept Changing During The Show
Suits Used The Names On The Wall To Create Tension
Suits’ firm had 13 names throughout the show, including one that was only featured in flashbacks. From Gordon Schmidt Van Dyke to Litt Wheeler Williams Bennett,Suitssaw a lot of name partners coming and going across nine seasons. Audiences are first introduced to theSuitscharacters at Pearson Hardman, yet Daniel Hardman only shows up in season 2. From then on, Jessica Pearson had to face multiple challenges to keep Hardman away from the firm while also keeping her name on the wall. By the end of season 2, Pearson Hardman was just Pearson.
Considering thatSuitsended in 2019, we are now past the five-year window that Louis set up in the bylaws.
However, Jessica knew that she would need a new partner eventually. Enter Pearson Darby, which eventually became Pearson Darby Specter once Harvey finally became a name partner. Darby turned out to be an untrustworthy partner, leading to yet another name change. Louis Litt using his leverage on Mike and Jessica to get his name on the door was also a huge moment for the show. Jessica’s exit, the Robert Zane merger, and the introduction of Alex and Samantha also led to new names. Essentially,Suitsoften used the names on the wall to create tension and high-stakes stories.
Suits: L.A. Could Reference The Original Show’s Firm
TheSuitsuniverse is continuing withSuits: L.A., an upcoming spinoff series about an entertainment law firm based in Los Angeles.Suits: L.A.’s castwill include a brand-new set of characters and, so far, noSuitsactor has been confirmed to appear on the new show. That said, assumingSuits: L.A.will eventually include cameos from the original series, it would be hilarious if Litt Wheeler Williams Bennett had a new name. Considering thatSuitsended in 2019, we are now past the five-year window that Louis set up in the bylaws.
From an in-universe perspective, anything could have happened since the credits rolled in theSuitsfinale. Other senior partners may have proven themselves worthy to have their names on the wall, whereas some of the previous name partners may have left the firm for some reason.Suitsnever went through more than a couple of years without having the name of the firm changed, so it would not be surprising if it had changed yet again between season 9 andSuits: L.A.Regardless,Suits: L.A.should hopefully offer some updates regarding Litt Wheeler Williams Bennett, even if only through a namedrop.
