Sweet Home 2was very different from season 1, focusing less on what was loved about the first season and instead expanding itself into a wider context outside of the confines of Green Home. This creative shift was a risk that was met with a lot of criticism as the second season didn’t seem to live up to the first. A popular Sweet Home season 3 theory claims a new character introduced in season 2 will put an end to the monster curse in Netflix’s horror K-drama.
10Several Original Sweet Home Characters Didn’t Make It To Season 3
Some Of These Characters Deserved Better
IfSweet Home’s character deaths weren’t heartbreaking enough,Sweet Homeseason 2’s upped the ante. The fantasy K-drama continues to show that no character is safe in the world of monsters and humans, and as such, only eightoriginalSweet Homecharacters are still alive at the end of season 2. These deaths are heartbreaking, especially as fans had grown to love these characters in the show’s first season. However, withSweet Home 2taking on a completely new vibe, not all the characters were destined to make it to the end.
Thoughevery death inSweet Homeseason 2had a clear impact, none feels more disappointing than Yoon Ji-su’s (Park Gyu-young). Yoon Ji-su was a fan-favorite character inSweet Home’s first season and although her death helped her save Young-su, her end did not do her character justice. Su-young’s (Heo Yool) death was just as heartbreaking, as it left her younger brother Young-su (Choi Go) as the only child left from Green Home. Although these characters' deaths are upsetting, one ofSweet Home’s returning characters proves not all character’s deaths are permanent.

9Sweet Home 2 Is Full of New Interesting Characters
They Help To Show A New Side To Sweet Home’s World
Sweet Home 2may have seen the loss of many beloved characters, but it did allow for many new characters to be introduced. From mad scientists to rogue survivors, each new character adds more depth to theSweet Homeuniverse now that its characters explore life outside of Green Home. ThoughSweet Homeseason 2’s new charactersmade it a very different season from its first, they gaveSweet Homea lot of necessary context.
It will be great to see how each of these characters navigates their way through the final season, hopefully bringing a nice balance that unites the best things about seasons 1 and 2 together.

Some ofSweet Homeseason 3’s returning charactersinclude season 2’s Private Park Chan-young (Jinyoung), Master Sergeant Tak In-hwan (Yu Oh-seong), and scientist Dr. Lim (Oh Jung-se). The end of season 2 sees each of these characters in a precarious position. Chan-young is heading toward chaos at the stadium, In-hwan is showing signs of monsterization, whileDr. Lim learns one ofSweet Home 2’s biggest secrets. It will be great to see how each of these characters navigates their way through the final season, hopefully bringing a nice balance that unites the best things about seasons 1 and 2 together.
8Cha Hyun-su Is Absent For Most Of Season 2
He Looks To Have More Screen Time in Season 3
Despite being the leading character ofSweet Home’s first season, Song Kang’s Cha Hyun-su was absent for most of its second. This was a risky move that came with a lot of criticism, and Cha Hyun-su’s importance in the first season seemed to be replaced by storylines of newer characters. As a result, this made it harder for some to enjoySweet Home’s new tonal shift as most of what fans had enjoyed about the first season had been completely changed.
The reason for Song Kang’s absence inSweet Home 2is unclear. However, several signs point towards him finally getting more screen time in the show’s final season. Cha Hyun-su is the face ofSweet Home, and many of the upcoming promotional materials have heavily featured him as one of the key players in season 3. With his absence so sorely felt,it would be a huge mistake not to give Hyun-su more screen time in season 3and use his perspective to help bring the final season to a close, just like he had started it.
7Sweet Home Season 2’s Time Skip Moved Characters Into A New Setting
The Time Skips To Day 337 Since Monsterization
Following the bombing at the Green Home resident’s newly-found shelter, the survivors took residence underneath another nearby stadium. This stadium is policed by the Crow Platoon, who have enacted a strict curfew and restricted entry to the outside world. In the new shelter, the former Green Home survivors are all seen as outcasts. For example, Kim Young-su is bullied by other children in the shelter, while Lee Eun-yu (Go Min-si) is thought of as a murderer who killed Chief Ji’s (Kim Shin-rok) husband, Dong-gi (Kim Kyu-baek).
This new setting is likely to cause a few problems inSweet Home’s next season. For starters, the Crow Platoon’s leader, Tak In-hwan, has begun to show signs of monsterization. This is ironic, considering that the Crow Platoon announced that they would begin to execute anyone who was symptomatic. Along with this, Chief Ji appears to be keeping the monsterized version of her son in the stadium. With this safe haven now beginning to crumble,Sweet Home 3 looks set to cause chaos once again.
6Hyun-su Was Used As An Experiment To Understand Monsters and Monster-Humans
One ofSweet Homeseason 2’s most controversial new characters is Dr. Lim, played by Oh Jung-se. Contrary to popular belief, Dr. Lim views humans as a sickness and monsters as a cure and is completely fascinated by the entire monsterization process. This has seen him engage in several tasteless experiments throughoutSweet Homefor his own curiosity, rather than for the development of a cure. Dr. Lim is particularly fascinated by monster-humans, which leads him to begin experimenting on Hyun-su.
Hyun-su’s time with Dr. Lim evokes more sympathy for the monsters, as Hyun-su can see what the humans are thinking inside their monstrous shells.
Hyun-su is not the first monster-human that Dr. Lim tests on, nor is he the last. Even after the time-skip and the boredom of being trapped underground, Dr. Lim provokes the newly created monster-human Jun-il into killing his mother. However, Hyun-su’s time with Dr. Lim evokes more sympathy for the monsters, as Hyun-su can see what the humans are thinking inside their monstrous shells. The further introduction and exploration of monster-humans is likely to play a big part inSweet Home’s final season, especially as their loyalties to humans and monsters vary from person to person.
Sweet Home Season 3’s Lee Do-hyun Return Proves The K-Drama Has Learned From Its Season 2 Mistake
Lee Do-hyun’s Eun-hyeok returns in Sweet Home season 3, and the Netflix K-drama seems to be fixing the biggest problem with the divisive season 2.
5Yi-kyung Gives Birth To A Monster Child
The Nameless Girl’s Powers Are Different To Other Monsters
InSweet Home’s first season, Seo Yi-kyung (Lee Si-young) discovered she was pregnant. Although she was not very far along in her pregnancy inSweet Home 2, Yi-kyung gives birth to a girl (Kim Si-a) before the show’s time skip takes effect. Yi-kyung’s birth is rapidly accelerated due to the baby’s father, Sang-won, being a monster-human. As a result, the child she bears is also assumed to be part monster. However, her powers seem to operate much differently than those of other monsters and monster-humans, such as Cha Hyun-su.
Compared to normal human growth, the child’s growth is rapidly accelerated. After the time-skip, she is presented as a young child before she is injured and takes on the form of a teenager. However, in real-time, the child is most likely less than a year old. Yi-kyung’s daughter also has the power to turn humans into monsters. This power has been an important plot point throughoutSweet Home 2, and with the child’s growing frustration towards humans, she is likely going to play an important part in the monster’s fight against humans.
4Hyun-su “Killed” Yi-kyung
Yi-kyung Couldn’t Live With The Guilt As A Human Or Monster
In season 2,Yi-kyung began to lose herself in the world of monsters. The birth of her daughter left her torn between two mindsets: whether to kill her child or to let her live. Yi-kyung ultimately chooses to leave her daughter under the care of Hyun-su before eventually returning to raise her herself after seeing she looks normal. However, Yi-kyung’s daughter is anything but, which scares Yi-kyung and leads her to mistreat her daughter, who wishes for her mother to understand her.
Yi-kyung is consumed by feelings of guilt once again and sets her boat on fire while she is still on board. Hyun-su, Eun-yu, and Chan-young try to save her, but without sufficient oxygen, she will not make it. Hyun-su finds the girl to help her say goodbye to her mother, but she instead turns her into a monster. Hyun-su ends Yi-kyung’s suffering by throwing her into a pit. Though she is presumed dead, as her death as a monster was not seen on-screen,there is a potential that Yi-kyung could be resurrected inSweet Homeseason 3.
3The Monsters Are Evolving
The Battle Between Humans And Monsters Is Getting More Tense
Though Dr. Lim dedicated a lot of time to studying the monsters and monster-humans,it is only in the show’s final episode that he discovers that the monsters are beginning to evolve. Characters such as Yi-kyung’s unnamed daughter begin to arouse suspicions as to what monsters and monster-humans may be capable of. However, the mysterious cocoons have a big part to play inSweet Home 2episode 8, as their purpose begins to reveal itself.
In the original webtoon, these neohumans have no more desires and are emotionless beings with no monstrous powers.
Initially, characters who turn into monsters believe that being a monster is their final state. However, one of season 2’s biggest twists reveals there is a next step. After becoming monsters, characters are cocooned for some time before being reborn as neohumans. In the original webtoon, these neohumans have no more desires and are emotionless beings with no monstrous powers. Though it is currently unclear what role neohumans will play in the upcoming season, one ofSweet Home 3’s returning characters looks to play a key role in this new storyline.
2Ui-myeong Is Actually Sang-won
His Identity Is One of The Most Confusing Parts Of Sweet Home
Lee Jin-wook’sSweet Home 2charactercan be hard to understand, especially with the monsters' new abilities that allow them to possess others. In season 1, Lee Jin-wook played Pyeon Sang-wook, who was killed by the show’s antagonist, Jung Ui-myeong (Kim Sung-cheol) in the final episode. Ui-myeong is a liquid monster who can inhabit another person’s body. This leads him to possess Sang-wook’s body after his passing and explains Lee Jin-wook’s return toSweet Home 2. However, one big twist in the show’s finale complicated Ui-myeong’s identity even morewhile similarly setting up another ferocious antagonist forSweet Home 3.
In season 2, episode 8,Ui-myeong reveals to Dr. Lim that he is actually Yi-kyung’s fiancée and MH-1, Sang-won, and was never actually Ui-myeong. Sang-won had previously disappeared before the events of season 1 and had offered himself to the military hoping they could find a vaccine or cure for the impending outbreak. However, Dr. Lim’s ruthless love for science meant that Sang-won was treated inhumanely by the scientist. This has left Sang-won with a disdain for humans that looks to play a vital part inSweet Home 3.
1Eun-hyuk Is Alive
He Isn’t The Same Eun-hyuk As Before
InSweet Homeseason 1, Lee Eun-hyuk’s (Lee Do-hyun) death was one of the saddest. He chose to stay in Green House as it fell instead of going with the survivors to find new shelter as he had begun to show symptoms of monsterization. InSweet Home 2, Lee Eun-yu spent the duration of the season looking for her brother, knowing that he had most likely either died or turned into a monster. However, the final moments ofSweet Home 2reveal Eun-hyuk’s fatebut also hint that he is not the same as he once was.
Sweet Home 2episode 8 sees Eun-hyuk emerge from a cocoon. He looks human, but he certainly isn’t. Eun-hyuk is most likely a neohuman, which is one of the last stages of monsterization in theSweet Homeuniverse. Eun-hyuk’s monsterization brings back a much-needed face fromSweet Home’s first season, but it also presents a new challenge asEun-hyuk is likely to become one ofSweet Home’s new antagonistsin its final season.
