Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Boys season 4 and The Boys comics.
Summary
WithThe Boysseason 4 providing plenty of twists and dramatic moments, one supe’s fate just became much more important after a huge character exit. The Boyshas been one of Prime Video’s flagship shows for the past five years, as the realistic depiction of superheroes instantly connected with audiences and the series has continued to grow in popularity every year since. Its violent and unfiltered nature has helped create a completely unique take on traditional superhero stories, and despiteThe Boysseason 4’s initial audience scorebeing poor, it has returned to form and produced another great installment.
As the drama continues to heat up heading into the finale, one massive character departure in season 4, episode 7, could have big ramifications moving forward, particularly for one supe. “The Insider” proved to be one of season 4’s best episodes yet, as it saw Starlight and Butcher fight The Deep and Black Noir, while also introducing shapeshifting supes. With the stakes continuing to rise ahead ofThe Boys' confirmed final season, it’s difficult to predict what might happen next, but after a major character seemingly exited the show, all eyes are now on one member ofThe Seven inThe Boys.

Episode 4 - Wisdom of the Ages
The Boys Season 4’s A-Train Exit Means The Deep Is The Only Original Member Of The Seven Left Besides Homelander
Every Original Member Of The Seven Has Either Left Or Died Other Than The Deep & Homelander
Since season 1, The Seven has seen five of its original members depart the group, as Translucent and the original Black Noir were killed, while Starlight, Queen Maeve, and A-Train all left.
While it is unclear if he will return, A-Train exitedThe Boysin season 4’s penultimate episode, making The Deep the only original member of The Seven remaining - other than Homelander. Since season 1, The Seven has seen five of its original members depart the group, as Translucent and the original Black Noir were killed, while Starlight, Queen Maeve, and A-Train all left. Given that Homelander will almost certainly die beforeThe Boys' main story concludes, it makes The Deep’s role even more interesting, as he could be the last member standing if he survives season 5.

What A Relief! The Boys Isn’t Ever Redeeming The Deep
The Boys season 4 has doubled down on The Deep being a terrible person, with this scene confirming that the series will never redeem him.
With Vought being another potential casualty in season 5, The Seven may not even exist come the finale. Still,The Deep is on course to be the only original member of the group not to leave or be killed, especially as he has been extremely lucky so far. Butcher and Starlight had the opportunity to kill him in “The Insider” but didn’t want to waste time figuring out an exact method, allowing him to weasel his way to safety. Despite being one of The Seven’s weakest members, he has somehow survived this long, proving fortune is on his side.

The Deep Being The Last Remaining Member Of The Original Seven Is Ironic After Season 1
The Deep’s Longevity In The Seven Is Remarkable Given He Was Demoted In The First Season
The Deep becoming the last remaining member of The Seven would be ironic after his season 1 demotion. His horrifying antics duringThe Boys' debut resulted in him being dropped from the group and joining the Church of the Collective to try and reform. A-Train was also kicked out of the group earlier in the show - albeit for entirely different reasons - butThe Deep’s insecurities and cowardly nature made him seem like the least likely member to survive. Despite this, he remains part of The Seven, though Homelander isn’t thrilled about his involvement.
He was only reinstated to the group alongside A-Train to do Homelander’s bidding. Since then,The Deep and A-Train have had opposite stories, as A-Train has finally found redemption, whereas The Deep only got worse. Even though the majority of his peers don’t respect him, and he isn’t as powerful as any of The Seven’s original supes, The Deep looks as though he will outlast them all. He has even avoided The Boys' wrath since he hasn’t been deemed one of The Seven’s main threats, and Vought’s protection has helped him live this long against all the odds.
The Boys Comics Improve The Deep’s Survival Chances
The Deep’s Fate In The Comics Is Great News For His Chances Of Surviving Prime Video’s Adaptation
Although Prime Video’s version ofThe Boyshas deviated massively from the comics, the show has still incorporated some aspects from the source material, and The Deep’s survival could be one of them. Other than Starlight, The Deep is the only member ofThe Seven who lives inThe Boyscomics, suggesting he may make it out of the show alive. Not only does this include the original members, but every other supe who was ever part of The Seven died in the comics - including A-Train and Queen Maeve - making The Deep’s fate more impressive.
While Prime Video has already gone in other directions with these supes, the fact that The Deep has made it this far is good news for the character. The comic version is completely different from the show’s adaptation, as the original character is more noble and honorable than his TV counterpart, despite being flawed.Prime Video’s version of The Deep deserves to face justice, but his survival could help highlight that not everyone gets the ending they deserve inThe Boys, which would keep his potential return open inGen Vor other spinoffs.
