Twitter’s Edit Button Rollout Begins, but the US Will Have to Wait
Twitter has rolled out its highly anticipated edit button to three countries, but those in the US will have to wait a bit longer to receive the feature. While some are annoyed at the delay, users with access to the feature have already begun sharing edited tweets.
Twitter Launches Its Edit Button in Limited Regions
Twitter announced that it was testing an edit button—the most requested feature on the social media platform—at the beginning of September 2022. By 29 September, it has shared thefirst edited tweeton the platform.
And now, the company has announced that the Edit Tweet feature is rolling out to Twitter Blue members in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It also noted that the US rollout is “coming soon”.
Along with the announcement, the Twitter Blue account shared a preview of how the edit button works for users. While everyone can see an edited tweet and its revision history, only Twitter Blue subscribers in the launch countries will see the option to edit a tweet.
Any edited tweets will appear with a pen icon next to the user’s handle and tweet timestamp. Users with access to editing have started sharing edited tweets on the platform to show off the feature. This includes Twitter staff and other subscribers, some of whom have set up VPNs to access the feature.
Early access to the Edit Tweet feature may be a deciding factor for many when figuring outwhether Twitter Blue is worth the money. But for now, access to the feature remains limited to certain regions.
Twitter has emphasized that it is using a gradual, limited rollout to see how Twitter users react to and implement the Edit Tweet feature. The company had been hesitant to introduce the feature in the past due to its potential misuse.
And when will the US receive the feature? Besides the “coming soon” comment, Twitter has given no timeframe.
