Today, almost everything is recharged via a USB port. However, not all devices come with a USB charger—especially Apple phones. Although it provides a charging brick for MacBooks, the base models usually just get a power brick that delivers 35 watts and two USB-C ports. Ugreen offers the Nexode Pro 65W, which costs less while charging more and doing so faster.

The Ugreen Nexode Pro 65W is a three-port GaN charger that lets you charge all your devices fast. It’s compact and light, allowing you to bring it around daily without adding additional weight and bulk to your bag.

A Small and Pocketable Fast Charger

The 65-watt Ugreen Nexode Pro is a little gray plastic brick that weighs just around 109 grams (3.84oz) and measures a mere 5.6 x 4.2 x 3.4 cm (2.2 x 1.65 x 1.34 inches), giving it a volume of around 80 cubic cm. In contrast, the35-watt Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapterthat comes with the 15-inch MacBook Air weighs 104 grams but measures 5.2 x 5.2 x 3.1 cm—or around 84 cubic cm.

Although the Nexode Pro is smaller than the Apple charger, it delivers almost double the power at 65 watts, meaning you can charge your devices much more quickly. Furthermore, it has an extra USB-A port, so you can power up three devices instead of the two the Apple charger limits you to.

Oh, and one more thing… the Nexode Pro 65W costs $55.99 on the Ugreen website, making it $3 more affordable than the aforementioned Apple charger.

The Nexode Pro also has a folding plug, ensuring a compact form factor when you’re not using it. It would easily fit in your backpack or shoulder bag without poking two holes in it. However, this only comes with a US plug, so if you’re traveling to Europe or other countries with a different plug style, you need a travel adapter with you.

Charge Your Laptop, Tablet, and Smartphone

Aside from its higher power output, the Nexode Pro 65W has one more USB port. Although it’s a USB-A port, you probably still have a couple of devices that use that, meaning you don’t have to buy a new USB-C cable just to recharge them (thus helping reduce e-waste).

So, with its three USB ports, this is how the Nexode Pro 65W divides its charging output between its available ports.

If you need a quick charge, you can use just the first two ports, and your device should top up quickly. But for most daytime use, the 45W and 20W output of the two USB-C ports (when used simultaneously) should be more than enough. After all, my two MacBook Airs (an M1 and a 15-inch M2) both top out at 45W via the USB-C port, while my iPhone 14 Pro Max peaks at 27W.

So, even if I use my 15-inch laptop and smartphone the entire day, I’d still have a full battery level when I clock out. Furthermore, you may use all three ports when you top-up your devices at night. Despite running the two lower ports (USB-C2 and USB-A) running at just 7.5 watts, that should be enough to give you a full charge for most devices when you wake up.

For example, you can use the 45-watt USB-C1 to recharge your power bank while you’re in bed and then use USB-C2 and USB-A to top up your phone and earbuds. After all, slow charging canmarginally increase the lifespan of your device’s battery.

Average Power Efficiency and Operating Temperature

Although the Nexode Pro can output 65 watts into your devices, it’s taking way more than that from the outlet. According to our testing with a smart plug, the charger consumes as much as 75 watts with two devices plugged in—a 15-inch MacBook Air taking in 44 watts from USB-C1 and an iPhone plugged in at USB-C2.

Although I do not have an active watt-output reading from the iPhone’s Lightning cable, we can assume that the port is pushing out its close to its maximum 20 watts. So, that means the charger supplies 64 watts to my two devices.

We see the charger uses up to 11 watts for its own operation and wastes some as heat, giving it an efficiency of about 85%. It does get pretty warm, hitting up to 62.9 degrees Celsius with three devices drawing power from it. Nevertheless, its efficiency and temperature are expected for a charger of that size.

Your Small Power Brick for Everyday Use

The Ugreen Nexode Pro 65W Charger is the perfect fast charger for your daily bag. It’s small and unobtrusive, letting you slip it into a small pocket, ready to be used anytime for your phone and laptop.

And if you find yourself on an impromptu trip, it should be enough to power up your travel gear while you sleep, guaranteeing a full battery for your phone, earbuds, and power bank the next day.
