Uncharted 2has received a hopeful yet uncertain update, and will depend on Tom Holland’s increasingly busy schedule. Based on the popular video game series of the same name, theUnchartedmovie was released in 2022, and starred Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas. Following two treasure hunters in a race against a corrupt billionaire to find the famed lost treasure of the Magellan expedition, the movie received negative critical reviews, but was a box office success, grossing more than $407 million against a budget of $120 million, and sequelUncharted 2is in development.
PerDeadline, the project has received an update from producer Charles Roven, who has spoken positively about the likelihood of a sequel, but reiterated that much will depend on Holland’s packed schedule as he is working on Christopher Nolan’s next movie and going to be filmingSpider-Man 4. Roven’s comments bode well for the future ofUncharted, as they show that, despite being a couple of years since the first movie,there is still keen interest in developing more movies from this world, but there needs to be time to do the project properly and give it the attention it needs. However, it should be noted thatUnchartedwas a financial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing video game movies of all time, and this is bound to all but lock in a sequel. The fact that Holland also served as executive producer on the first movie would suggest he has a strong attachment to the film, and would seek to return for a sequel once he has the time in his schedule to do so. Wahlberg’s scheduling is also bound to play a prominent role in when the second movie will enter production.
