Although it initially seemed like The Deep would be getting a redemption story,The Boyshas finally proven that it is never redeeming the aquatic supe - and that’s a good thing. Like many of the other supes inThe Boysuniverse,The Deep is a powerful personbut a horrible one, with his story throughout the show’s first four seasons highlighting how terrible he is. The atrocities that he has committed during his time as a member of The Seven have painted him as one of the very worst supes, andThe Boysisn’t planning to change this status quo anytime soon.

The Boysseason 4 has had to perform a delicate balancing act, as it is having to juggle a massivecast ofThe Boyssupes and humans, giving each character their time in the spotlight. The Deep is one character who has gotten a surprising amount of focus in season 4 so far, with the show exploring a strange love triangle between him, his octopus lover, and Sister Sage. Despite the absurdity of The Deep’s storyline, the character has gotten a lot of development this season, although it hasn’t been positive.

7 Questions The Boys Season 4 Must Answer In The Final Episode

Episode 8 marks the end of The Boys season 4 but, from the looks of it, the show still has a lot to unpack and many underlying questions to answer.

Ambrosius' Death Proves The Boys Isn’t Ever Redeeming The Deep

He Killed The One Character Who Loved Him

The Boysseason 3 introduced The Deep’s weirdest storyline yet, with one scene featuring The Deep having sex with his pet octopus. Although this initially seemed like a one-off gag, it has come back inThe Boysseason 4 in full force, with several episodes dedicating time to The Deep’s relationship with Ambrosius the octopus. In season 4, The Deep has been hiding his animal lover in his closet, withTilda Swinton joiningThe Boysto voice the octopus during the several scenes in which they are talking about their loving relationship.

AlthoughThe Deep’s relationship with Ambrosius the octopus is mostly played for laughs throughout the show,The Boysseason 4, episode 7 took a dark turn with the storyline. In one scene, Ambrosius reveals that she knows The Deep has been hooking up with Sister Sage, starting a major argument about Sage only using him. Things get more and more heated until The Deep, after professing his superiority as a supe, smashes Ambrosius' tank. He then leaves the room and sits, listening to Ambrosius gasping for breath as she dies.

While The Seven has been incredibly opposed toThe Deep’s acts of bestiality throughoutThe Boys, Ambrosius' relationship with The Deep has been the only real positive character relationship that The Deep has had throughout the show. The fact that The Deep’s supe supremacist views have caused him to hurt and kill the only character who has ever truly loved him highlights just how far gone the supe is. This action proved thatThe Deep has not changed for the better, highlighting how he is only getting worse.

6 Ways The Boys Season 4 Hinted At That Joe Kessler Twist

The Boys' latest episode made a huge revelation about Joe Kessler, but there were several clues throughout season 4 that indicated he wasn’t real.

The Boys Season 2 Teased The Deep’s Possible Redemption

The Deep was a horrible person throughoutThe Boysseason 1, butseason 2 of the TV series took a turn by teasing The Deep’s redemption. After being fired from The Seven, The Deep goes on a journey of self-discovery, attempting to make right the wrong he did to Starlight. During this time, a cult known as the Church of the Collective begins to take advantage of The Deep, brainwashing him and putting him in a position where viewers ofThe Boyscould feel some sympathy for the character. Interestingly, this continued into season 3.

Although he is still fighting against the protagonists ofThe Boys,The Deep rejoining Vought’s premier supe team as a member of The Seven seemed to be a second chance for the character, showing that he had the potential to be much better. However, The Deep’s continued role in Homelander’s evil plans completely undid his season 2 development, throwing the character’s redemption arc out the window. Despite this, some still believed The Deep could have a redemption arc later in the series.

A-Train’s The Boys Season 4 Story Makes Deep’s Redemption Even Less Likely

There Isn’t Room For Another Redemption

AlthoughThe Boysseason 4 was another chance for The Deep to get a redemption arc,A-Train’s story makes this seem less likely.AlthoughA-Train’s murder of Hughie’s girlfriendmade him the first antagonist ofThe Boys, the character has finally had a change of heart. The Boys have convinced A-Train to go against Homelander’s plans and help the team take down Vought, with A-Train deciding to do this to look like a true hero in the eyes of his nephews.

A-Train’s season 4 story means thatThe Deep’s redemption definitely won’t happen in season 4based on the pattern thatThe Boyshas closely stuck to.The Boysreally only redeems one supe at a time, with Queen Maeve deconstructing The Seven’s ideology in the first two seasons and Black Noir getting a bit of a redemption inThe Boysseason 4. The Deep’s last shot to be redeemed will be inThe Boysseason 5, and based on his actions in season 4, this arc seems increasingly unlikely.

Jessie T Usher’s The Boys character finds himself in new surroundings in “Dirty Business,” but the location won’t be unfamiliar to the creative team.

Deep’s Very First Story In The Boys Shows Why He Shouldn’t Be Redeemed

The Deep Went Too Far

The Deep has been a terrible person since his very first appearance, with him doing something so terrible thatThe Boysshouldn’t attempt to redeem him.The Boysseason 1’s controversial Starlight scenesees The Deep sexually assault Starlight shortly after she joined the team, with this defining the character for his first two seasons in the show. The tragic effects that this incident had on Starlight have been hit home by the series time and time again, and redeeming her rapist would be a bad road to go down.

Due to Starlight remaining one of the protagonists ofThe Boys, it would be incredibly difficult for the series to get its viewers on the side of The Deep, one of the most notoriously hated characters in the series. Instead, it would be a better choice to have The Deep continue to go down his current path, with him being one of the biggest villains and worst people inThe Boysuniverse.
