You can argue whether Google’s design aesthetic is truly iconic, but it’s definitely recognizable at this point. The 2023-releasedGoogle Pixel 8leans into the Big G’s marshmallow-like theme more than ever, and comes in a small range of colors that might not exactly pop, but do stand out from the competition. And, in January 2024, a new contender arose, adding another soft, fun colorway that might leave you considering a clear version of one of thePixel 8’s many great cases.
Google Pixel 8
The new Google Pixel 8 has a lot to offer its users from an optimized design, to an all new processor, and four brilliant colors to choose from. While they all pair beautifully with other Google devices, each of these colors offers up a little something different for everyone.
The 2022 Pixel 7’s color choices underwhelmed a little, especially compared to the moreinteresting Pixel huesover the years. The Snow and Obsidian versions amount to glorified white and black, and while the Lemongrass looks nice, it could definitely be more bold.

While you could say the same about the available Pixel 8 shades, they’re at least a little more interesting than their predecessor’s.
Rose Google Pixel 8
Earlier leaks were calling this color “Peony Rose” and many users weren’t sure how well that would market. To simplify things, Google opted for a simple and effective name: Rose. This light, unintrusive shade of pink doesn’t have too much saturation, but just enough to contrast well with a variety of accessories and case styles.

Keep that Pixel 8 pixel-perfect
While not offered on any other Pixel devices, it resembles the Rose Gold color offered on certain iPhones and MacBooks of days gone by. Google offers an original case in this same Rose color, in case you want a perfectly matching cover. For those looking for something less bright and standout, Google delivered two darker, more understated options.

Hazel Google Pixel 8
What color is hazel, anyway? Depending on who you ask, it can be a reddish gray, greenish gold, or grayish green. Google decided that it’s basically just gray, at least on the Pixel 8. It does have a hint of green, but you pretty much have to squint to see it. Nonetheless, phones don’t typically come in this kind of subdued shade, so it will stand out despite looking a bit bland at first. The proof’s in the pudding there, as Google brought this popular color scheme back from the Pixel 7 Pro.
If you’re looking to accessorize, you won’t have any problems matching the Hazel Pixel 8 with just about any color including white or black for added accents. Going back to our original confusion over the color’s identity, though, even Google can’t quite seem to make up its mind, as the Pixel Tablet’s Hazel version sports considerably more green. Pixel Watch 2 fans will like it though, as it perfectly matches the band on Google’s Champage Gold smartwatch.

Obsidian Google Pixel 8
Considerably softer than pure black, Obsidian’s the only color the smaller Pixel shares with thePixel 8 Pro. While the contrasting aluminum visor makes this unlike run-of-the-mill black phones, it’s still the most popular choice for most people because it looks classy and hides the inevitable blemish well.
Of course, black goes with everything, so if you like to vary your colors or periodically switch up your entire palate, Obsidian’s a reliable choice. It matches almost perfectly with a wide range of other Google devices and accessories, too, for those who like to stay within one manufacturer’s ecosystem.

Mint Google Pixel 8
New to the scene as of August 20, 2025, the Mint Pixel 8 offers users a refreshing light green that evokes the Pixel 6’s popular Sorta Seafoam colorway, but with a little more richness. The polished aluminum visor contrasts ever so slightly with the glossy glass on the back and sides, and it looks even better in person than in pictures. Anyone not interested in owning a pink phone will undoubtedly find this the most exciting variant.
Anybody who purchased a Pixel 8 early on, before Google offered the Mint version, can simulate it by picking up one of Google’s OEM cases in an identical shade. And, for what it’s worth, this year’s first-party Pixel cases do boast quality materials, precise manufacturing, and dependable build quality, unlike some previous Google cases. But beware if you’re trying to match your Quite Mint second-generation Pixel Buds, as they’re not the exact same color.

Deciding on the perfect color
Although it’s not exactly a life-altering decision, picking the right color can affect how much you enjoy using your phone. Google gives you a solid choice between two light, standout shades and two subdued, less attention-grabbing ones. The darker colors will make it a little easier to match with other devices, but Google’s design acuity means you won’t be getting an ugly phone, no matter which you choose.
One helpful tip to deciding on the perfect color: look at your existing devices, and your wishlist for future devices. Many of Google’s devices follow just a few of the same colorways, so you can actually match and pair your new Pixel 8 with a handful of old and new devices. And while you can always wrap your phone in a good case or cover, Google’s latest small flagship looks good enough that you might not want to.
The Google Pixel 8 has turned heads with its sleek design, and beautiful finishes. There are four elegant colors to choose from - Mint, Rose, Hazel, and Obsidian - and plenty of Google’s accessories pair with each finish. That said, the Hazel option is our pick for its balanced tone.
