Summary

House of the Dragonseason 2, episode 6, sees Alyn of Hull shaving his head, and there’s a particular reason why. Played by Abubakar Salim, Alyn joined theHouse of the Dragonseason 2 castas an enigmatic figure appearing on the Velaryon island of Driftmark. His story has been left relatively vague so far, thoughCorlys Velaryon seems to have taken an interest in him following Alyn saving his life during an off-screen conflictthat occurred sometime around the end of season 1. But the Seasnake’s interest in Alyn extends beyond just this one instance.

Alyn of Hull is among the manynew characters inHouse of the Dragonseason 2whose purpose hasn’t been made entirely clear yet. Like his brother, Addam, and other characters like Ulf and Hugh, they’ve been slowly integrated throughout the episodes with only minor hints of their larger purpose. Alyn’s biggest hint is shown in season 2, episode 6 when he’s seen shaving his hair. Addam tells him he won’t be able to hide it forever, but Alyn continues to shave.

Alyn Wants To Hide His Silver Valyrian Hair

If it hasn’t been made clear by Corlys' particular interest and the scenes with Rhaenys Targaryen on Driftmark,Alyn of Hull is Corlys Velaryon’s bastard son. While Addam hopes to gain something from his parentage and encourages Alyn to embrace the Seasnake’s sudden interest, Alyn tries to hide his Valyrian parentage. One way he does so is by shaving his hair, which is shown to be silver, much like the Targaryen and Velaryon characters in the show.

This is especially important forHouse of the Dragon’snarrative now thatRhaenyra and Jacaerys are specifically looking for descendants of Valyrian lines. Ser Steffon Darklyn tries to mount the dragon Seasmoke because he has a Targaryen in his ancestry, but fails in doing so. However, season 2, episode 6’s endingimplies that Addam of Hull has bonded with Seasmoke, setting up Corlys' suns for their narrative throughout the rest of the show. Alyn and Addam are the closest to direct Valyrian lineage left in the series.
