Althoughmost of the protagonists inThe Boyshave dark backstories, this is especially true for Kimiko and Frenchie. Both of these characters were former killers, and while they are still working with The Boys to kill supes, their previous murderous roles were even darker than this.

Before joining The Boys,Frenchie was a hitman, with him working for a notoriousRussian mobster named Little Nina. During this relationship, Frenchie killed all kinds of innocent people, something that still haunts him inThe Boysseason 4. This is brought back up when Frenchie begins dating a coworker named Colin, with Colin being unaware that Frenchie murdered his family. Frenchie feels as if his past connection to Colin means that Colin can never love him, leading to Frenchie keeping this a secret for several episodes.

While dealing with the Colin situation, Frenchie seeks advice from Kimiko, who is also dealing with letting go of her old past. In season 4,the Shining Light Liberation Army pops back up, with Kimiko seeing it as her duty to kill as many of them as possible. Kimiko also tries to move on in non-violent ways, with her opening up about her past to The Boys and even going to therapy. Frenchie turning himself in for his crimes was a major turning point for his arc, but it also had a huge impact on Kimiko as well. Frenchie turning himself in allowed Kimiko’s feelings to surface, with her realizing how difficult it was to live without him. Since Kimiko met Frenchie, the duo has always been around each other, with this being the first extended period that Kimiko has been alone.Kimiko tried visiting Frenchie in prison several times, but he always turned down her visits, something that really stung for the supe.

Frenchie and Kimiko’s romance will undoubtedly play a major role inThe Boysseason 5, setting up a new dynamic for both characters.The final montage ofThe Boysseason 4 saw Frenchie and Kimiko get arrestedby Homelander’s supe army, with the loss of Frenchie hurting Kimiko so much that she finally spoke. Season 5 will undoubtedly feature Kimiko’s attempts to save Frenchie, as he was ripped from her right as they got together for the first time.

Kimiko and Frenchie’s romance can also bring much-needed light to the dour The Boys team,adding some positivity to the dark and sarcastic group. The characters finally being in a loving relationship could serve as a thematic path forward for every character on the team, allowing Hughie, Butcher, Mother’s Milk, and the rest of the gang to realize that they should put the hatred of their pasts behind them and move forward seeking love. While this may seem like a far too optimistic ending forThe Boys, Frenchie and Kimiko’s relationship is hopeful enough to make this work.
