Samuel L. Jackson doubles down that Mace Windu survived in theStar Warsuniverse. Jackson played the Jedi Master character in all threeStar WarsPrequel Trilogy films. However, in 2005’sStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, it appeared as ifWindu had been killed after confronting Palpatine.

In a recent appearance onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jackson discussed his thoughts on Windu’s fate, saying that his take is not controversial. He gave several reasons why Windu is not dead, such asStar Wars' own history with the character having one arm and that he is the second-most powerful Jedi after Yoda, which means he could probably float. Jackson then joked about how Windu is alive and “walking the Earth” with his character Jules Winnfield fromPulp Fiction. Read his full comment below:

Star Wars' Mace Windu pointing his lightsaber at Palpatine.

“There’s a history alone, history of one-armed, one-handed people in theStar WarsUniverse. So, just cause they cut my arm off and I fell out a window, doesn’t mean I’m dead. I’m a Jedi! The second-most powerful Jedi in the universe next to Yoda. So, I can float!”

Yeah, he’s out there. Yeah, he’s out there walking the Earth with Jules.

What Mace Windu’s Survival Would Mean For Star Wars

Samuel L. Jackson Makes A Good Case For Mace Windu

Even though it appeared that Windu died inRevenge of the Sith, Jackson referencing otherStar Warscharacters does help back up his point. Obi-Wan Kenobi believed that Anakin Skywalker died after their battle on Mustafar. It wasn’t until 10 years later that Obi-Wan learned that his former apprentice had actually survived. Palpatine himself also had an apparent death similar to Windu, when Darth Vader threw him down a shaft, and was later revealed to be alive decades later. IfPalpatine could have survived a similar fall, it’s possible Windu could have, too.

Star Wars: Everything We Know About Mace Windu’s Life Before The Phantom Menace

Before the events of The Phantom Menace, Star Wars canon and Legends stories explored the history of the legendary Jedi Master Mace Windu.

Since the Jedi were being hunted,Windu probably would have gone into hidinglike Obi-Wan and Yoda did in the original trilogy. This would also explain his absence in stories afterRevenge of the Sith. However, it remains questionable if Windu could reappear at any point inStar Wars.

Our Take On Mace Windu Surviving In Star Wars

Windu Surviving Creates Interesting Story Possibilities

As one of the most powerful Jedi in theStar Warsuniverse, if anyone was going to survive that type of fall, it would be Mace Windu. Since Windu is one of the most popular characters from the prequel trilogy, having him survive also opens the possibility to tell interesting stories. There could be a story that shows where Windu ended up after having to go into hiding, just like theObi-Wan Kenobiminiseries did for Obi-Wan. A new story could also provide definitive closure for one of the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy.
